Episode Summary

EDIT
Having made it to Mars, the Nadesico fends off an attack and locates an underground colony of survivors. But rather than being grateful to be rescued, the survivors have no intention of leaving their home, because they believe the Nadesico will be destroyed before it gets back to Earth! Can Yurika prove that the Nadesico is up to the task, or is the colonists' dire prediction all too accurate?moreless

      • Megumi: Excuse me, Yurika, but I don't care if you are the captain.
        Yurika: Huh?
Megumi: I'm not going to lose.
Yurika: Uh-huh. And I'm not gonna lose either! We're all going to beat those Jovian lizards together!
        (Megumi laughs uncertainly)
Yurika: That's right, they're not gonna keep me down! No sirree bob, not me! (continues)
Megumi: Captain, that's not what I meant by what I was saying- oh, come on, let me explain what I meant.

      • Yurika: Akito…please, kiss me.
Akito: Yurika, I don't think this is the time-
Yurika: Oh no, I didn't mean for you to kiss me the way you kissed Megumi…
Akito: What? You saw that? Oh, that was just something, something that, er…
Yurika: I don't care. It doesn't matter. I just want…something that means that there's still hope.

      • Yurika: Why did we bother? What's the point? We didn't save anyone. I couldn't save them. I failed.
        Akito: Yurika…
Yurika: This is the first time you've been nice to me, since you came aboard this ship.

      • Megumi: You know, you can only analyse so much.
Inez: Right now, you're letting your hormones cloud your judgment, little girl. Not everyone can be a hero.

      • Inez: That would require a long story.
Megumi: I'll settle for the cliffs notes.
Inez: Because at least here there's a chance of survival. Your ship will never make it back to Earth.

      • Inez: I'm not sure whether to welcome you or to throw you out, so I think I'll compromise by making you drink some of my nasty coffee.

      • (Looking for a loophole to let her leave the bridge, Yurika puts a Gekigangar model labeled "Captain" in the captain's chair).
Yurika: That ought to do it. Geki, take command!
(Jun throws the model away; it bounces off Ruri's console)
        Jun: Are you nuts?
        (Ruri picks up the model)
Ruri: (to model) You'd probably do a better job.

      • Ruri: Passing through the first layer of nano-machines.
Megumi: Isn't it dangerous to have something like that passing through the Nadesico?
Yurika: There's nothing to worry about. I remember people on Mars were always swallowing or inhaling nano-machines by accident, but if you wait a few days they just come out the other end.

      • Akito: Jeez, is everyone in this fire fight screwing around except me?

      • Izumi: I'm sorry. Sometimes I get moody.
Ryoko: Huh? And that's the understatement of the year!

      • Akito: AAGH! I hate inertia! I hate it!
This is a joking reference to the fact that most mecha anime ignore real-world physics- drift and inertia are usually nonexistent, with the pilot having to constantly accelerate just to stay at the same speed, and stopping instantly without the need for a brake.
