A Marvel's Daredevil Community
Friday 12:00 AM on Netflix

Former Law & Order: Criminal Intent star Vincent D'Onofrio has joined the cast of Netflix's Daredevil as the series' main villain, Marvel announced Tuesday.

Daredevil tells the story of Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer-turned-crime-fighter who will be played by Boardwalk Empire's Charlie Cox. D'Onofrio will play Wilson Fisk, the feared and powerful crime lord otherwise known as Kingpin. Fisk's interests in the future of Hell's Kitchen will bring him into conflict with Daredevil.

"We're incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining Marvel's Daredevil in such an integral role," Jeph Loeb, Marvel's head of television, said in a statement. "Wilson Fisk is an iconic villain whose cunning and power make him the dangerous equal of our hero."

The role was previously brought to life by the late Michael Clarke Duncan in the 2003 film Daredevil, which starred Ben Affleck as the titular hero.

Daredevil is part of Netflix's huge deal with Marvel Comics; it's the first of four Marvel series coming to streaming service. The others center on Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage, with an Avengers-like combo series planned as well.

Netflix hasn't announced a premiere date for Daredevil, but production is scheduled to begin in July, and the 13-episode series is expected to debut sometime in 2015. Spartacus creator Steven S. DeKnight was recently named the series' showrunner.

Aside from Daredevil it sounds like they will be focusing on the B-Team of Marvel.
Avengers-like combo? Could it be The Defenders?

I love Daredevil because of Frank Millers writing run on the comic back in the 80's so I'm really interested in checking the show out.
To me, Vincent seems like an excellent choice to play a guy like The Kingpin. He has the acting chops to pull off a role like that in his sleep & will do the part as well as he can (best we can hope for right now is that the writing will be good enough to make Fisk believable.)

As far as people complaining about his size discrepancy from the comics (& more in general, those who tend to complain overall how superhero screen adaptations differ from the comic book pages) I just gotta say: I used to be like that, so I understand.

...but, I think the people who do get peeved about that sort of thing would really prefer an animated series over a live-action show even if they deny it to themselves or others.

A guy that large in a live action series would make it pitifully ridiculous to even watch him walk through doorways, get in a limo, or even walk at all for that matter when you get right down to it

We've seen Vincent puff up a bit for some of his roles. That dude takes his acting seriously.

I enjoy his work... and honestly this is the first bit of news that makes me want to watch the series.

I don't mind Daredevil... but I'm not his biggest fan. Add in that this is the 12+ tv adaptation of a comic line lately and it sours my taste for it. But if Vincent's in it, I'll at least give it a chance.

I'm a huge Daredevil fan, big fan of Vincent and cant think of a better guy to play Kingpin. Incredible role (assuming he's written well) for an incredible actor. Would love to see who they cast for Stick, Elektra and Bullseye, assuming they appear.
Don't talk to me about the Movie. Just don't *weeps*
Bring on this show (and the others) ASAP.

Great actor, albeit a scenery-chewer, he'll really fit Wilson Fisk's mental acuity and style. He used to be studly, he was "Thor" in Adventures in Babysitting, but he put on a bunch of weight for Full Metal Jacket and the physical toll never quite left him - I really, REALLY hope he doesn't try to do something like that with Kingpin, the character is like 600 pounds, he's ridiculously broad (yet somehow incredibly agile and physically dangerous, because comic books are silly). Hopefully they figure out a way to make the character look exceptionally fat and large without making another guy put on the pounds - Michael Clarke Duncan put on 40 pounds and still never really looked quite right, so it's not going to work that way trying to "big" an actor up.

Screw it, just shoot him from really low and stand him on an apple-box, it'll be fine.

I just love Vincent D'Onofrio! He is soooo intense! I am already scared thinking what he is going to do with the part!

I approve of the face and the acting skills, but he's a bit small.

On the other hand, so is everyone else.

I was thinking its probably a voice acting role. I didnt read the article.

Gotta say: really interesting casting.

D'Onofrio doesn't really look the part (honestly, except for the late, great Michael Clarke Duncan, who does?), but he can definitely play the part.

Man, this series is shapping up to be really good... unless, you know, Jeph Loeb screws it up, as he usually does.

This one of the great underrated actors who deserves all the opportunities he can get. This is great news indeed.

A lot of people don't realize just how great a range Vincent has. He's one of the best T.V.(and movie) actors out there and he's going to elevate this show just by being in it.

Sounds like a lot of interesting shows are coming up on Netflix, but it worries me that the showrunner created that shitty Spartacus show.

You are down right nuts if you think Spartacus is a shitty show. The first few episodes were less than spectacular but after that it never let up and finished on top. Which is more than 98% of shows can claim when they are done..

Spartacus was the best show possible to be made about this unknown hero. Neither the nudity or the violence were gratuitous.

Well, to be completely honest, some of it was. A lot of it actually. (When recently freed slaves take control of a city, how the hell do they have topless girls dancing to entertain the men as they're drinking all the wine they can find?) But I still sort of agree with you, because a lot of the nudity that idiots say was gratuitous wasn't gratuitous at all.

It says a lot about you that you call someone an idiot for having an opinion.

It worries me even more you consider Spartacus a shitty show.

Yeah seriously. Spartacus was one of the best showed produced in the past five years(plot, directing, acting, dialogue all top notch). Some people couldn't get past the ultra-violence and nudity though.

I agree, it was a hidden gem in its time. Sure, it looked like it was filled with mindless action and plenty of gratuitous nudity, but underneath that was a show that was high quality on almost every level.

They must have hid it well, because unfortunately they destroyed any "quality" with smut and violence, like it was meant to cater to the braindead male masses... I'm still not convinced, seeing as it's as usual only men who react to my comment here - and they just love that kind of stuff.

Interesting...he obviously doesn't bring the physical dimension that the late, great Mr Duncan did, but he is a superb actor and should do well with whatever material's given him.

Also, Steven S. Knight is going to run this thing? Woo hoo! Will Marvel/Netflix sign off on some NC17 content? Full frontal Elektra!
