  • Martin Mull

    Garth Gimble (1976)/Barth Gimble (1977)

    9.1
A classically trained artist, Martin fell into acting by stages. While still a student and struggling artist, Martin began writing songs and performing. First as part of a group called Soop, he performed on one album called In the Soop. Subsequent albums were under his own name, although pianist Ed Wise (who was with MM in the previous group) continued to perform with him. His break into acting came when Norman Lear offered him a role on the soap opera parody Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. After this character was killed off (followed quickly by the assassination of Mary Hartman itself because star Louise Lasser burned herself out), Lear cast him in another parody, Fernwood 2Night, which poked fun at small-town talk shows. This was set in Fernwood, Ohio, the fictional home of Mary Hartman. For the second season, the show was renamed America 2Night. The locale was changed to a small town near Los Angeles so that big stars could appear on the show from time to time. After America 2Night, Martin appeared in numerous movies and had a recurring character on Roseanne. Currently he can be seen as the Principal on Sabrina, the Teenaged Witch. But as far as MM was concerned, this was just a side trip. His real love was, and is, in his painting. If he got some money from his acting or singing/songwriting (one of his songs was covered by Sonic Youth), it was more to buy "more tubes of paint" than anything else.moreless

Red-haired comedienne, dancer, producer and writer, Dody began her career dancing at Radio City Music Hall and the Metropolitan Opera. Her Broadway performances in shows such as "Call Me Madam" and "A Wonderful Town" garnered her the reputation with her comedic antics. This lead to her change in careers from ballet to comedy. Influenced by Lucille Ball, Gracie Allen and Spring Byington, Dody developed her own style continuing on stage and Broadway. Television was just the next venue for Dody to appear in. Dody guested on such programs as "The Jack Paar Show" as a semi-regular, "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "The Steve Allen Show" just to name a few. Appearances on various talk shows and variety specials throughout the 60's finally led to a television sitcom titled "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman". Along with a dozen movie roles and cartoon voice as Miss Rebecca Miller in the "Chipmunk Adventure" series, Dody has continued her career on television.moreless
  • Renee Taylor

    Annabelle Kearns

    9.0
Rene Taylor might just be the most famous "Jewish mother" in the history of television thanks to her role as "Sylvia Fine" on the hit series The Nanny, but this wonderful actress wasn't always a household name. In fact, for quite a long time in her career, she had a hard time getting roles that would showcase her vast talent. Thankfully not only is Taylor a terrific actress, but she can also write and direct with the best in the business, and as a result created some of the best roles she's ever played for herself. In the 1960s, Rene met actor/director Joe Bologna and fell in love. They married on August 6, 1965, and the two have been working together ever since. They have one son, Gabriel, who has now followed in the footsteps of his famous parents.moreless
