This is the first episode where BJ grows the mustache he wears for the rest of the series. I like the mustache. It serves him well. Most people don't know this, but Alan Alda suggested Mike Farrell grow it. Some think this is where "M*A*S*H" jumped the shark, but I don't think it did.

  • TRIVIA (1)

  • QUOTES (12)

    • Charles: Hunnicutt, I have met a lot of people in my life. You are not among them. (sneezes)
      B.J.: Bless you anyway, creep.
Mulcahy: I think the expression is "God bless you, creep."

    • B.J.: Colonel? How long will you be gone?
Potter: No idea. I've seen these things take an hour or three days.
B.J.: We'll leave a marker where the camp was.

    • Father Mulcahy: Remember son, patience is a virtue.
      Hawkeye: You're taxing my virtue.

    • Klinger: Colonel, I missed you!
      Colonel Potter: No!
Klinger: About my heart murmur, sir . . .
      Colonel Potter: No!
Klinger: My double vision is coming back.
      Colonel Potter: No!
Klinger: I've fallen in love with a goat!
      Colonel Potter: No!
Klinger: Glad to have you back, sir. (leaves the room)

    • Hawkeye: Put all that garbage on my desk, I'll ignore it later.
Radar: The pile on your desk is almost as high as me!
Hawkeye: Well, how bad can that be?

    • Colonel Potter: Pierce, you're temporary CO.
      Hawkeye: I'm who?
      BJ: There goes the war.

    • Hawkeye: Don't disturb me until lunch. Lunch is disturbing enough.

    • Hawkeye: I'm a coward. My insignia is a cringing chicken.

    • Margaret: I don't believe what I'm hearing! Since when did you join the Army?
Hawkeye: Since it was left to me!
Margaret: (chuckling) If only Frank Burns could see you now. It isn't easy to be the clown when you have to run the circus, is it?
      Hawkeye: Are you finished?
Margaret: Only one more thing. Permission to say 'Serves you right, sir!'
      Hawkeye: Permission denied. Dismissed.

    • Hawkeye: (Looking for the key to the liquor cabinet.) Where's the key?
Radar: With the Colonel, I'm happy to say.
      Hawkeye: He doesn't trust me?
Radar: Well, if you were him and he was you, would you?
Hawkeye: That's catchy. Set that to music right away.

    • Klinger (talking to Winchester): Riff?! With all due respect, sir, may a pregnant camel give birth in your bunk!

    • Pierce: I don't know how to give orders!
Potter: That's all right. No one around here knows how to take 'em.

  • NOTES (4)

    • The opening was again reshot for this season to accommodate B.J.'s mustache; after Hawkeye runs up to the chopper, B.J. enters closeup, looks, and nods. In addition, William Christopher is added to the opening credits and Gene Reynolds receives a production credit in the opening.

    • For the first time in 3 seasons, M*A*S*H does not open the season with a special 60-minute episode.

    • Also this season, the usage of John Parker's musical stings inbetween scenes is slowly phased out until completely dispensed with altogether.

    • Here Capt. BJ Hunnicutt grows the moustache he would wear throughout the remainder of the series run.
