  • a great ep. yet it seems so....unexpected yet known...so good yet missing

    8.6
it feels as if the entire series before the airing was leading up to a moment when they embrace after 10 minutes it ends they go about the rest of the show in great tension and annoyance and then this momentous ep. ends never to be mentioned again...that is the sad part.
  • Hawkeye & Margaret ... YES!

    9.0
I always wished this would happen, but it was short lived :(

I love how Margaret reacted the morning after, it seemed as if she had been waiting for it to happen for a long time.

I think that they would have been quite good together but more as a on and off couple through the show.

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • When Margaret and Hawkeye wake up cuddling, their dialogue and body language (especially Margaret's) indicate that they did a lot more than just kiss the previous night. However, they are still completely dressed when they wake up together. Was the night cold enough that they felt they had to put their clothes back on afterwards?

    • When Hawkeye and Margaret are demonstrating the arterial transplant, Margaret mentions that they are using a vascular clamp that was designed at the 4077. Hawkeye and B.J. do not design this clamp for another three episodes. (Ep. # 134, "Patent 4077"). Although "Patent 4077" first aired after this episode, it was actually produced before this episode, as evident by the episodes production numbers. "Patent 4077" has a production number of Y114, whereas "Comrades In Arms Pt 1 and 2" have production numbers of Y116 and Y117.

  • QUOTES (8)

    • B.J.& Doug Ayleworth: Oh, we went looking for ya, because we both adore ya. But don't you ever do it! Don't you put us through it! Don't you ever do it again!

    • Klinger: A M*A*S*H compass! If from this camp you ever stray, this little compass will show the way. Aim this arrow to where you ain't, and you'll get home with no complaint.

    • Mulcahy: In case you go travelling again, here are your passports. 'This is a chief surgeon and a head nurse. Do not give them candy or let them loose. Please return to M*A*S*H 4077, where they will be given hot soup, clean jammies, and a kiss on the head.

    • (Hawkeye struggling to get up with his wounded leg)
Margaret: (to Hawkeye) Ah, my brave soldier! You're wonderful! You're my inspiration! (yelling) SHAKE A LEG!!
Hawkeye: (to the dying Korean soldier) You wanna trade places, fella?

    • Potter: (after Margaret slaps Hawkeye) Hell hath no fury like a woman sustained.

    • Margaret: Don't panic, darling. We'll be alright.
Hawkeye: (looking out the window) There's a North Korean out there. (looks at Margaret in suprise) Darling?

    • Margaret: We'll have a continental breakfast.
      Hawkeye: Continent of Atlantis.
      Margaret: What?
Hawkeye: That's the one that sank.

    • (Margaret cuddling with Hawkeye)
      Margaret: What'll we tell Donald?
Hawkeye: (sounding nervous) Donald?...What do you usually tell him?

  • NOTES (3)

    • Both parts of this two-parter were actually co-directed by Alda and Metcalfe. Each man was credited with directing one part of the duo because of Directors' Guild regulations which stipulate that an episode of a TV series should be directed by one person.

    • Nominated for an Emmy in Outastanding Directorial Achievement In A Comedy Series and a Director's Guild Award.

    • Radar does not appear in this episode, either.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • When Father Mulcahy is in O.R., he says that when he was trying to get someone at H.Q. to send up a chopper to find Hawkeye and Margaret, he says his shouting might have cost him a few days in purgatory. In religion, purgatory is what a spirit goes through to be cleansed before entering heaven.
