  • Quotes

    • Henry: Listen, Pierce. You were ordered to stand down!
Hawkeye: I did, but I fell up again.

    • Hawkeye: Why are we here? Why is this war going on? Why does North Korea want to invade America? Is it because of something we said or something we didn't say? What do they want from us? We have guns, they have guns, we have tanks, they want tanks.

    • Henry: (to Trapper) You know what? If we had any guts, you, me, and (pointing at Hawkeye) the Masked Marvel there would take the next latrine out of here and go home.

    • Trapper (to Hawkeye): Why don't you go to sleep? You're turning into a hundred and seventy pound fruitcake.

    • Henry: Do we have enough sherry and ginger ale for the general?
      Radar: Oh, nobody does, sir.
Henry: Well fine, then, if nobody does, we don't have to. But make sure we do, just in case we don't.

    • Henry: I'm gonna be frank with you, Pierce.
Hawkeye: You're gonna be frank with me?
      Henry: I mean blunt.
Hawkeye: Oh, that's good, otherwise Frank would try to be Henry with me. I don't think I could stand that.

    • Hawkeye: (To Radar) World War II--a lot of nice songs came out of that war. (Singing) I'll be home for Christmas...You can plan on me...(speaking again) You know that song?
Radar: Uh, no, I guess that was a little before my time.
Hawkeye: I remember lying on the rug listening to them sing that on the radio. I can still smell the rug. (singing) Please have snow...and mistletoe..and presents on the tree... (speaking) A lot of very touching songs came out of that war. (singing again) When der Fuhrer says...we is da master race...we heil (Raspberry) heil (raspberry) right in the Fuhrer's face.

    • Trapper: (about Hawkeye) I guess he's just unstable. He took this weird oath as a young man never to just stand by and watch people die.

    • (Watching Hawkeye after he has been drugged)
Radar: When's he gonna fall down?
Trapper: I don't know. Rasputin swallowed a whole drugstore and didn't even belch.

  • Notes

  • Allusions

    • Trapper: I don't know. Rasputin swallowed a whole drugstore and didn't even belch.
Rasputin was a Russian monk who because of his influence over the Czar and his wife, drove other members of the Russian court to try and kill him. Poisoning him with a whole bunch of drugs was one of many methods they tried that didn't succeed.

    • The episode title is a reference to Robert Louis Stevenson's book Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

    • When Hawkeye is getting Radar to send a telegram, he addresses him as "Mercury." In Greco-Roman mythology, Mercury (or Hermes) was the messenger of the gods.
