Episode Summary

EDIT
For Want of a Boot
AIRED:
A riotous episode in which Hawkeye will do anything to get a new pair of boots: In order to get Zale to get him some, he must get an appointment for Zale with Futterman, the camp dentist, who will only do it if Henry will give him a pass to Tokyo, and Henry will only grant the pass if Houlihan will get off his back, which she will do only if the guys throw a party for Frank's birthday, with a cake, and Radar will only help get the cake if he gets a date with Nurse Murphy, who will only date someone with a hair dryer, and Klinger won't give up the hair dryer unless he gets a section 8 (and Frank won't sign). Inevitably, the deal falls through, much to the Hawkeye's chagrin.moreless

Shows you what a failure is Blake as a commander. A real tough commander would have gotten Hawkeye boots and trasfered Zale to the front lines.....
  • Great episode but why did'nt they introduce the painless pole to the tv show.

I love this episode i think its got some great moments in, but i have never understood why they did'nt introduce the orignal dentist from both the book and the movie.

Captian Walter "Painless Pole" Waldowski. Owner of the pride of Hamtrack.

I think he was mentioned in the very first episode but that was it and it seemed this episode would have been perfect to introduce him again. I loved the first few episodes such as chief surgon and the polit episode, because they took ideas and storys from richard Hookers orginal work and showed that they could be changed slightly and used for the tv show.

But i miss the lack of knowlege that you get about the secondary charters like Dish, Storch, Ugly john, Spearchuker and don't gey be started on Duke Forrest.moreless

    • (Radar yells at Trapper after a short joke)
Hawkeye: Hey, you know he's only joking.
Trapper: Yeah, in our hearts you're six-foot-three.
Radar: Yeah, I know. I'm just kinda edgy lately. Guess it's my, uh, loneliness. (Hawkeye and Trapper look at each other)
      Hawkeye: Which one is she?
Radar: That new first lieutenant, the big blond lady.
      Trapper: Murphy? The wonder nurse?
Hawkeye: She's two people taller than you.
Trapper: Be smart, Radar. Start in the boy's department. Work your way up to the men's floor.
Hawkeye: Give us a little time, we'll find you something in 32 regular.

    • Henry: (describing Margaret) The queen of the bedpans strikes again!

    • (Hawkeye and Trapper go into Capt. Futterman's tent)
      Futterman: Pierce, McIntyre.
      Hawkeye: Konichiwa, Dr. Futterman-san.
Futterman: (bows) The sun smiles. The river laughs.
Hawkeye: (bows back) Can't help lovin' that man o' mine.

    • Trapper: Klinger's not a pervert!
      Margaret: How do you know?
Trapper: Because I'm one, and he's never at the meetings!

    • Margaret: They love you, Frank.
Frank: It was their hatred that fooled me.

For want of a shoe, the horse was lost.
For want of a horse, the rider was lost.
For want of a rider, the battle was lost.
For want of a battle, the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.
