Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • When Col. Wortman is planning the 'glorious' fighting that General Kelly would have wanted to die in, he refers to Kelly as a Major General. Kelly was a three-star, or Leiutenant General.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • Hawkeye: (after examining Kelly) If his last words were 'I shall return,' don't wait.

    • (Margaret runs into the Swamp while Hawkeye and Trapper are asleep)
Margaret: (shaking Hawkeye and looking very scared) Pierce, wake up. Pierce! I've got to see you.
Hawkeye: Margaret! This is a recurring dream come true.

    • General Kelly: What seems to be wrong with this soldier?
Trapper: Well, he's got a weight problem. Caught about five pounds of lead in his belly.
General Kelly: You boys are certainly doing a fine job.
      Hawkeye: You too, General.
      Henry: Pierce...
Hawkeye: We could never do any of this without your help, sir.

    • Colonel Wortman: That's not a teddy bear!?
Radar: Uh, yes sir. Regulations against having the real kind.

    • Frank: Everything ship shape in here?
      Trapper: Aye, aye sir.
Hawkeye: Except the camp is taking on water.

    • (Wortman arranges for a battle for Gen. Kelly's 'death')
Wortman: Maj. Gen. Robert 'Iron Guts' Kelly is gonna perish in a full-scale, blazing, all-out, glorious, Star-Spangled Banner-ed death!
      Henry: Hey, guys?
      Trapper: Yes, Henry?
Henry: is he talking about killing a general who's already dead?
      Trapper: That's right, Henry.
Henry: Well, uh, isn't that sort of crazy?
Wortman: And rockets--I want plenty of rockets.
Hawkeye: That's for the red glare.

    • Margaret: (in her tent, referring to Kelly) Nothing like this has ever happened to me before.
Hawkeye: I'm sure it's a first for him, too.

  • NOTES (2)

    • The late James Gregory was notable as the reactionary presidential candidate Senator John 'Big John' Iselin in the classic 1962 movie The Manchurian Candidate, and would later achieve TV immortality as Inspector Frank D. Lugar on Barney Miller.

    • Keene Curtis would later play John Hill on Cheers.
