Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Goof: When Hawkeye is telling Col. Potter about being impotent, the wind is blowing his hair to the left. In the next shot, the wind is gone and Hawkeye's hair is parted back to the right.

  • QUOTES (8)

    • Potter: Burns, some men are born to greatness, others have garbage thrust upon them. You've got it.
Frank: I won't let you down, sir.
Potter: There's no way you can.

    • (BJ sends Klinger to get an IV stand for a patient)
Klinger: (when he returns) No more stands, Doc, what now?
BJ: Get a hammer, let's nail this thing to the wall.
Klinger: Boy, I wish I had your brains.
BJ: I wish I had your beauty.
      Klinger: There is that!

    • Hawkeye: (to Col. Coner) Nothing personal, Colonel. Just that we don't appreciate you making so many dead soldiers out of live soldiers by trying to retrieve so many dead soldiers.

    • Radar: Where were you originally born? I mean, as a child.

    • (After Private Phelan's death)
      Radar: I hope I don't cry.
      BJ: It's no sin, Radar.
Radar: When was the last time you felt like crying, sir?
      BJ: What time is it?

    • Hawkeye: What do you think of Nurse Able?
B.J.: If I wasn't married, I'd start nibbling at Nurse Able's toes and stop when I got to her hairpins.

    • Colonel Coner: Our losses were insignificant.
Hawkeye: How many kids in an insignificant?

    • (after Colonel Coner gets garbage dumped all over him)
B.J.: Beautiful!! Beautiful! A Tintoretto in barf! (kisses the tips of his fingers) Mmmf!
Frank: I had dreams like this all through puberty!
Colonel Potter: I didn't see any of it. But I loved it!
Klinger: (to Hawkeye) You're a pistol!

  • NOTES (2)

  • ALLUSIONS (3)

    • Tintoretto was a Venetian painter in the 16th century.

    • When Hawkeye is talking about his, ahem, failure to perform with Nurse Able, he says, "She looks a little like my mother, maybe Oedipus wrecked it for me." Oedipus, the king of Thebes, is a character from a Sophocles play who unknowingly kills his father and marries his mother; he was destined to do this because his parents had angered the gods. When Oedipus learns what he has done, he gouges his eyes out and leaves his city for a self-imposed exile in the desert.

    • Radar and Private Phelon work on a puzzle that is a picture of Jane Russell, the actress who first appeared in 1943's The Outlaw. According to Radar, they won't be able to finish the puzzle because "Major Houlihan confiscated all the good parts."
