    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • When B.J. stands to shake General Haggerty's hand in the mess tent, he appears to be eating, but his plate is totally clean and empty.

    • QUOTES (3)

      • (Klinger, Hawkeye, and B.J. are enjoying a meal from Pvt. Conway)
B.J.: You don't mean to tell me that this bit of culinary heaven came from our cook? The guy who made 'food' a four-letter word?
Klinger: I'm getting that bum reassigned to the garbage detail!
Hawkeye: Don't tell the flies, they'll leave!

      • Potter: She knew she was marrying a soldier. I proposed to her in combat boots.
Margaret: Well, she probably hoped to find them under the bed a little more often.

      • (They just heard Mildred's heartfelt letter to Col. Potter)
B.J.: (To Potter) You oughta marry that woman.
Hawkeye: If you don't, I will.
        B.J.: No...then she'd be "Mildred Pierce"!

    • NOTES (4)

      • Because of Gary Burghoff's imminent departure, this the first episode where the opening was edited to remove the small scene where Radar's head is looking up toward the incoming choppers.

      • Radar starts the R&R session that he will be on until "Goodbye Radar".

      • It is revealed by Klinger in "Guerilla My Dreams" that the events of the first 3 episodes in this season (this one, "Are You Now, Margaret?" and "Guerilla My Dreams") all take place within one week.

      • Gary Burghoff makes a guest appearance in this episode, and in episode 178 & 179, before leaving the series.

    • ALLUSIONS (1)

      • B.J.: No...then she'd be "Mildred Pierce".

Mildred Pierce is a tragic story written by James M. Cain about a mother who is separated from her husband during the depression and finds a job. The tragedy centers around Mildred's devotion towards her highly-cynical daughter.
