Six kids who have gone home get a second chance to reenter the competition by participating in two challenges that involve breaking apart a chicken and using the parts to make unique dishes. Richard Blais makes another appearance as the guest judge.
Former first lady Michelle Obama oversees a mystery-box challenge for the Top 14 cooks that's inspired by the White House garden. Later, Julie Bowen is the guest judge for a challenge when the kids create a dish in honor of their mothers.
The Top 20 cooks compete in the first mystery-box challenge of the season, which involves both sweet and savory ingredients. Later, the contestants try to duplicate one of Gordon Ramsay's signature seafood recipes. Chef Aarón Sánchez is the guest judge.
The Season 5 premiere introduces 16 contestants competing for eight of the Top 20 spots, but once they're split into four teams, each tasked with a specific dish, only two cooks from each group will advance to the next round of challenges.
