Jason, a 29 year old hydraulic tech from Washington prepared a Bacon and Strawberry with Garlic Horseradish and Fruit Reduction failed to impress the judges with his dish and does not get an apron.
Derrick, a 33 year old web designer from New York prepared a Potato Sopa with Chorizo and Fire Roasted Salsa, impressed the judges just by the fact that he made his own fresh sausage during the hour of prep time. He wins an apron, and moves onto the next round. Bob, a 38 year old organic farmer from Massachusetts prepared a Reverse Surf and Turf, Ahi Tuna Steak with Coconut Chicken Medallions doesn't even present any of his own vegetables on the plate, and does not win an apron.
Jim, a 35 year old martial arts instructor prepared Redneck Sushi but nothing is raw on his dish, and uses chicken as one of the ingredients, the judges question whether it is really sushi or not. He does not make it through, and proceeds to throw a tantrum after he exits from the judges' room. Esther, a 28 year old laywer from Los Angeles, California prepared a Korean Spicy Braised Cod with Daikon Radish, and impressed two out of the 3 judges. She gets an apron and moves onto the next round.
Alvin, a 28 year old retail manager from Texas uses science to cook, and he impressed the judges with his dish: Loco Moco, Braised Beef Short Rib with Egg on Sticky White Rice, and gets an apron. Denise, a 55 year old event planner from California is competing with her son, Kyle, a 27 year old catering manager from Ohio. Denise failed to impress with her Spicy Green Beans with Sausage, the judges remarking that her dish was merely a side dish, and not a main dish. Her son Kyle, moves onto the next round with his dish, Chicken Paprikash with Sauteed Spaetzle. Tony, a 51 year old truck driver from Illinois prepared a Pan seared Mahi Mahi with Paella Rice and Mango salsa, he moves onto the next round with a MasterChef apron. The last contestant, Alejandra, a 37 year old architect from California prepared Sauteed Shrimp with Saffron Infused Quinoa, impressed the judges and wins an apron.
