    • QUOTES (1)

      • American Buyer: (as the patu comes up for bidding at auction) Magnificent, isn't it?
        Petra: Stunning.
American Buyer: Are you going to be exercising your pretty little hands today?
Petra: The only gesture I'll be giving Colin is this one (makes a rude gesture) for dangling another hoard of wonders before a poor art dealer.

    • NOTES (4)

      • This is the only time that American actress Renee O'Connor of Xena: Warrior Princess fame appeared on a Kiwi produced show while working in the country.

      • When the episode was released in DVD it's title was shortened to "The Heirloom: Te Kura".

      • In Maori kura means treasure, and a paraoa is a weapon made out of whalebone.

      • Writer Brad Haami says the story is based on an experience he had at an auction in Wellington.

"I remember going along to an auction where a lot of sacred Maori objects were going under the hammer," he says. "There were many Maori there trying to buy back the objects to take them back to their rightful place within their tribes. I thought this would make an interesting basis for a contemporary Maori drama."
