Math Talk

Show Summary

Math Talk is a math tutorial TV series designed to teach basic concepts of mathematics to young viewers. It was created and broadcasted by PBS in the United States from 1995 to 1996 and is a remake of the famous Square One Television program. Math Talk is comprised of short sketches that introduce and apply concepts in math such as counting, estimation and geometry. These sketches are usually presented by regular characters through parodies of pop culture icons and famous shows. Some are presented through music videos and others through comical skits. As an example, Mathman is the famous parody of Pac-Man and tries to let viewers recognize mistakes in solving math problems. Other animated characters include Dirk Niblick of the Math Brigade and Harry Blackstone, Jr. Some segments of the series also feature child contestants winning prizes through math games. Overall, this show hopes to make the challenge of learning math more fun for children, especially those who are having "math crisis".
