The Assassination
AIRED:

When the local mayor is assassinated, Matlock's daughter Leanne comes to town to prove the case. The case takes a different turn when a judge is accused of murdering a local man's wife, and Matlock and Leanne have to work out the problems in their relationship to clear Eller of murder.

      • In addition to featuring divided credits, this particular episode's credits were extended to acknowledge everyone who was working on the show as it was the NBC series finale. Instead of the season's closing theme, the show's opening theme was used in the extended credit sequence.

      • This episode marks Brynn Thayer's first appearance as Leanne McIntyre, although she was not yet officially part of the cast and received a guest credit. She was brought in to replace Nancy Stafford, who left the show when production moved to North Carolina. She was newly married, and did not want to leave her husband.
