Matthew and Son is a 1984 made-for-TV drama, directed by Gary Conway and
filmed in Australia. It features a young Nicole Kidman in one of her
earliest film appearances. The movie is loosely based on the life of Dr.
John Birrell, a well-known Australian police surgeon and road safety
advocate. Kidman plays the role of Bridget Elliot, one of a group of
high school seniors. After one of them is murdered in an apparent drug
deal, the others find themselves hunted and threatened by the killers.
The film provided a start for Australian soap star Darius Perkins and
comedian Greg Fleet, and also stars Paul Cronin, Paula Duncan, and Bruce
