Matty's Funday Funnies

Show Summary

ABC, through its partnership at the time with Paramount, presented this prime time showcase of the Paramount-released cartoons by the New York-based Famous Studios. These cartoons, originally shown theatrically, were packaged for television under the Harveytoons label as they all appeared (or would appear) in the Harvey Comics line. The characters featured included Casper the Friendly Ghost, Little Audrey, Baby Huey, and Herman & Katnip. Mattel toys was the sponsor, and the opening and closing titles featured their mascot, Matty.

On January 8, 1962, the Harveytoons were dropped (going into national syndication) and were replaced by Beany & Cecil. The show itself was renamed Matty's Funnies With Beany & Cecil and was sponsored by Mattel toys. This show ran one season in prime time and then ran another five years as simply Beany & Cecil on ABC's kidvid schedule (Saturday morning to 1964, then 1964-67 Sunday mornings).
