    • QUOTES (11)

      • Bart: Riverhead. The largest of the New Mexico gold camps, overflowing with gold-happy prospectors, all hoping to strike it rich. Some of them will, but most of them won't. If I were a sporting man, I'd lay my money on that auctioneer there, his true calling being poker - a noble profession a wise man keeps hidden in a mining camp.

      • Darby (referring to Elena): A quiet partner you are, Maverick, you not only don't bring back the supplies, but you ride into town with a bit of fluff that runs off all the customers.

      • Bart: She covers it pretty well.
        Darby: Covers it?
Bart: She doesn't like us one little bit. We're gringos.

      • Bart: Old friend, it'd be nice to have a heart to heart talk with you, if you had one, but since you haven't, I'll just say stay away from her. I'm gonna have enough trouble with that saloon keeper.
Darby: I'll try, Bart, believe me, I'll try hard. But even now I see myself going down to dismal defeat.
Bart: Hold on to the thought, it's a good one.

      • Darby: I have a blind, unreasoning passion for Latin women. Whenever I see one, something comes over me, I-I change. I become deceitful, cunning, unscrupulous.
Bart: And then after you change?
        Darby: Maverick, you're not kind.

      • Bart: You want that cantina pretty bad, don't you?
Elena: Why do you say this?
        Bart: 'Cause you didn't flinch.
Elena: Do the women usually flinch when you kiss them?
Bart: No. But you wanted to.
        Elena: Senor?
Bart: Elena, love, your hatred for the gringos is something beautiful to behold.

      • Bart (to Elena): Careful, senorita, I understand just enough Spanish to know when I'm bein' insulted.

      • Bart (to Elena): Money can't buy you friends. Money can't buy you happiness. Money can't buy you peace of mind. Confederate money, that is.

      • (Elena kisses Bart)
Elena: Tell me, my very good friend. What is a gringo?

      • Miner: Hey, how come you only auction an hour a day?
Bart: Well that's simple, friend. If we auctioned anymore than this, it wouldn't be an auction - be a store.

      • Wilson: Ain't you boys ever do any gambling?
        Bart: Oh, now and then.
