    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (4)

      • In this episdoe Edison Carter states that Max was born at the age of 27. The actor that plays Edison/Max, Matt Frewer would have been 27 in 1985. This was when the telefilm was made. He was 29 at the time of the US pilot episode.

      • In this episdoe Reg is showing Divine videos. In one of the videos Divine is singing "Walk Like a Man."

      • This episode uses the first cut of the opening credits with dialogue. This is used for the remainder of the first season. The lines spoken by Grossberg as head of Network 23 in episode 1.1 are here dubbed by Cheviot. It is not known why the lines were dubbed. It could be because Charles Rocket was not a continuing member of the cast after the pilot. It throws a strange light on Cheviot.

      • In this episode we realize that Edwards smokes. Although he has no lines in this episode but he does have a strong screen presence.

    • QUOTES (9)

      • Theora: It's a nuisance, not a crisis.
Murray: Yeah, we got one of those, too.

      • Max in control of the Network 23 announcing.
Max: Yes... Yes... Zik-Zak, the cor-cor-cor-corporation that makes you give away your money the nicer way!

      • Max: H-H-H-Hi there, and welcome back to Network 23. Listen - Listen: you can forget all that stuff about Z-Z-Zik-Zak's 'Burger Paks'... so don't go reaching for your old leather wallet... that's just what they t-t-t-taste like!
Max: ...but seriously: have you ever wondered why Zik-Zak Burgers come in plastic packs? Easy! Easy! Some of the plastic rubs off on the burger and doubles the nutritional value!
Cheviot: Oh, ny god! Bryce! If you can't control him, get him off!
Max: ...the Zik-Zak Automatic Bacon Straightener! Yes! Y-Y-Y-Yes! No longer will the curly pieces take longer to fry in the pan. B-B-B-Be rasher with your rasher!

      • Blank Reg: Welcome to Big Time Television. All day and every day, making tomorrow seem like yesterday. Now, remember when we said there was no future? Well, this is it. Right! Next up: more of the same.

      • Blank Reg: Dom... you smoke too much.
Blank Dominique: Reg, don't talk to me about personal habits. If you didn't nail you jeans to the floor at night, they'd escape.

      • Carter: What about the law, though, Reg? The Metrocops, they've broken up crooked body banks before.
Blank Reg: Law? In the Fringes? Justice is cash flow, my son.

      • Max: Asking is just polite de-de-demanding.
        Carter: Uh, that sounds familiar.
Max: It sh-sh-should: it's one of yours.
        Carter: I know.

      • Miss Formby:You have a network to run.
Cheviot: Yes, we do, Julia. Get Edwards in here! Sit down! We haven't had a ratings battle for a couple of minutes...

      • Carter: Max, this is very important. I have to talk to you.
        Max: What's on our mind?

    • NOTES (6)

      • It is never established who Plantagenetis. He knows Formby and Cheviot's secret. He is wealthy enough to keep buying illicit body parts for his mother. He is never seen in anyother episode.

      • In this episode we indirectly learn that Dr. Frank Nightingale is the owner of the body bank. You find this out when you see the name F. Nightengale appears at the bottom of the view phone screen. The transplant doctor refers to the body bank as "our own body bank". Plantagenet's responds back to him saying "your body bank". In this way it implies that he is Dr. Nightingale. In addition, the nurse at Nightingale's Body Bank is named Florence. She is related to Frank but whether she is a wife, sister, or cousin is never established.

      • Although it can be assumed that involvement among corporation board members would be frowned upon. It is not made clear why an old affair between Cheviot and Formby would be professional so damaging.

      • Subliminal Credits: Fred Raimondi has a subliminal credit in the Zik-Zak montage.

      • In this episode Blank Reg establishes that in the future books have become a rarity. Unfortunately in this future they are only valued by a few, including him.

      • Blank Reg is played by William Morgan Sheppard got his start his science fictions start on this show. He would go on later to been seen in Babylon 5 (Soul Hunter), Star Trek: Voyager (Bliss), and genre guest starring appearances.
