When Chief Clifford tells McCloud to stop using barnyard bromides.
A bromide is a figure of speech, referring to a phrase, (or person who uses such phrases), which have been used and repeated so many times as to become either insincere in their meaning, or seem like an attempt at trying to explain the obvious. It can also mean the unnecessary insertion of an (often irrelevant) cliché into a conversation, in an attempt to make the speaker sound more authoritative.
McCloud: I didn't know they had coal mines in the Bronx.
Charlotte Ockerman: It's only geography, Sam.
McCloud: I was standin' there like a three-legged jackass!
Senator Ferris: We'll miss you, McCloud.
McCloud: There ya go.
Karen Chandler: When I first met Peter, he was the roughest, straightest, handsomest flatfoot on Forty-Fifth Street.
Chief Clifford: And you were the prettiest... pedestrian.
Detective Mackie: I know how to make it look real, right down to the last detail.
Chief Clifford: And don't give me any of your barnyard bromides, a straight yes or no will do.
Chief Clifford: You know, Senator Ferris isn't a bad sort-when he stops shouting.
