  • Less a traditional "whodunit," but a light espionage caper.

By giving McMillan a colorful background (attorney, spy), the writers of "McMillan & Wife" could dip into that past to bring back old friends, flames and enemies from time to time. In this case, it's Mac's old spy buddies, one of whom has been killed by a mysterious double agent.

The only problem with this one is its length. At 96 minutes, it's padded just a little too much. At the show's usual 74 minute runtime this could have been a fantastic episode. But there's a lot of ponderous business in the carnival and elsewhere that cuts some of the tension in between chases.

I only recently watched the entirety of this episode - I remembered the denouement only from seeing it as a kid on A&E one afternoon! The explanation must have really made an impression on me!
