Medallion Theatre

Show Summary

This live anthology series, also known as Chrysler Medallion Theatre, was telecast live from New York City. The series was highly regarded because of the caliber of its scripts and talented big-name actors. The man behind the series, Bill Spier, had just completed work the previous season producing Omnibus, the 90 minute weekly program sponsored by the Ford Foundation. Arguing against critics who claimed that a half-hour was not nearly enough time to develop characters needed for a successful drama, Spier would point out that many of the world's greatest authors (Kipling, O. Henry) excelled at short stories. Despite the praise of critics, the show expired early due to low ratings.
