After the current Mrs. Burnes leaves a note for her parents saying she is taking a break from her marriage and life in general, her father, a friend of Devalos and a prominent councilman, goes to the DA to have some low-profile investigating done because he's not convinced his daughter is not in real danger. Allison has dreams about Mr. Burne's first wife being murdered, which lead them to start investigating the husband for the disappearance of both women. But just the title of the episode "A Taste of Her Own Medicine" implies, we learn early on that the second Mrs. Burnes was not so innocent and that whatever happened to her, we shouldn't feel to bad about it. For all the seeming obviousness, there are still more than enough twists to surprise viewers and make them ponder. Blythe Danner is wonderful in her role as the second Mrs. Burnes' mother. There is a subplot of the episode concerning a doctor diagnosing Joe with sleep deprivation and the sacrifices Allison and Joe contemplate and attempt to try and fix things. The youngest children's reactions to this are extremely entertaining and unforgettable.moreless

- The opening dream sequence, with Lynn and Devalos, is an allusion to the movie "Juno," from Lynn walking into the drugstore with a red sweatshirt to Devalos saying she has to pay for the "pee stick" (pregnancy test) she took. "Juno" is a 2007 film directed by Jason Reitman. The film is about a young girl named Juno who is pregnant (like Lynn DiNovi is in this Medium episode) and must make a decision about what to do with her baby.
