Early on in the episode when Joe is telling Allison about his visit to the doctor, the clock next to Allison reads "10:17" the entire time, even though their conversation lasts almost two minutes.
The now-separated couples shown at the beginning of the episode are: Guy Ritchie and Madonna Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson Kevin Federline and Britney Spears
Marie: Daddy? Daddy? Daddy? Daddy ... Daddy! (Joe groggily acknowledges her) Are you and Mommy having a divorce? Joe: Huh? Marie: Well are you? Joe: What? No! Nobody's getting a divorce. What would make you think something like that? Ariel: (off-screen) Bridgette! Bridgette: What? All I said, is after Celeste McAvoy's dad started sleeping on the couch, her parents got a divorce. And they did. (Joe Groans) Ariel: Then you started telling her that Celeste's dad took her to Universal in Florida. Now she thinks we're going to Florida. Marie: Are we goin' to Flori-da?
(Allison is dreaming) Devalos: (as Lynn DiNovi leaves with a pregnancy test) You pay for that pee stick when you're done, don't think it's yours just 'cause you marked it with your urine.
Scanlon: You know the great thing about being alone? There's no one to let down.

The opening dream sequence, with Lynn and Devalos, is an allusion to the movie "Juno," from Lynn walking into the drugstore with a red sweatshirt to Devalos saying she has to pay for the "pee stick" (pregnancy test) she took. "Juno" is a 2007 film directed by Jason Reitman. The film is about a young girl named Juno who is pregnant (like Lynn DiNovi is in this Medium episode) and must make a decision about what to do with her baby.
The title of this episode "A Taste of Her Own Medicine" is a shortened version of the popular phrase "Give her a taste of her own medicine," which means to get back at someone in the same manner that they hurt you.
