Meet Mr. McNutley

Show Summary

Ray McNutley is as the absent-minded professor heading the English department at an all-girl's school, Lynnhaven College. The show focuses on both his academic life, and life at home with his wife, Peggy. The premiere of the show was greeted with howls from the critics, resulting in some quick fixes. The focus on slapstick zaniness was toned down and more adult situations were seen. Milland responsed to the criticism by saying, "I've been in 70 pictures and 60 of them were stinkers. If 60 bad pictures can't kill you, what can?" Season two came with a new batch of changes: the character's name was now "McNulty", the show was retitled The Ray Milland Show and the professor was a drama teacher at co-ed Constock University.

  • Title of the Show is wrong

Whoever posted this information about this early TV show has the title of the show wrong. The correct title of the show was "Meet Mr. McNulty," NOT "Meet Mr. McNutley," You can check the IMDb at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045414/. All I can surmise from looking at descriptions here, there and everywhere on the Internet is that there must be zillions of dyslexics out there with regard to this program. I watched this show in the 1950s, and Ray Milland's character was Mr. McNulty -- for sure.
