Okay, here are the similarities I could think of between NE and MiT. Anybody have anything they want to add?

    1) NEx: Outsider Joel Fleischman is from the Big Apple
MiT: Outsider Marin Frist also hails from the city that never   sleeps
    2) NEx: One bar: The Brick
        MiT: One bar: The Cheiftan
    3) NEx: One way out: bush pilot Maggie O'Connel
MiT: One way out: bush pilot Buzz
    4) NEx: Setting: Small Town Cicely, Alaska
MiT: Setting: Small town Elmo, Alaska
    5) NEx: Farewell wishes from main character's former significant other: "Don't Get Frostbite"
MiT: Farewell wishes from main character's former significant other: "Don't Get Cold"
    6) NEx:
Maggie and Joel, the show's driving couple, don't get off to a good
start (ie. Joel think's she's "In the hospitality business")
        MiT:
Marin and Jack, who will most likely be the show's driving couple,
don't get off to a good start (ie. Marin goes all "psycho-analysis" on
    him when they first meet)
    7) NEx: Maggie and Joel= M+J
MiT: Marin and Jack= M+J (Coincidence, I think not)
NEx: The Bar: Run by odd couple Shelly Tambo and Holling Vincouer
MiT: The Bar: Run by odd couple Ben and Theresa
    9) NEx: Radio DJ Chris "In The Morning" Stevens
        MiT: Radio DJ Patrick Bachelor
(Is there anyone running these stations when these guys aren't around? Seriously)

    And if that wasn't enough...
    Who's Who?
    Marin Frist = Joel Fleischman
Patrick Bachelor = Ed Chigliak and Chris Stevens
Ben (the bar guy) = Holling Vincoeur and Chris Stevens
Jack = Maggie O'Connell (in terms of sexual tension)
Buzz = Maggie O'Connell (in terms of pilot thing)

Thank you!  I can't stop comparing the two.  When she goes on the bike ride  to throw the dress off the cliff was just like when Joel went for that first run all the way into town.  The similarities however do keep me watching.

It's always quite easy to compare any show with another one.

To be sure, MiT is trying to be NX. But the similarities are all superficial. Here are some contrasts.

NX episodes always had multiple story lines; MiT is about Marin.

NX episodes were about contrasting character types (Indians v. Whites, Whites v. Blacks, men v. women, rich v. poor, old v. young, metaphysical v. pragmatic, homophobes v. gays, etc.); MiT is about Marin.

NX had a moose; MiT has Marin.

If this is trying to be a one hour "Sex and the City" in Alaska with only Carrie Bradshaw and no T&A, then I doubt we'll see all 13 episodes. Even "Sex and the City" had multi-threaded plots.

You can't do a one hour series with a single story line.

The only reason multi-threaded plot lines came along was because writers couldn't think up enough material for the main story, so they came up with filler sideplots.  Actually, in the early days, they were all single story.  "The Fugitive" (1963 & 2000) for example.

Yes I do have to agree that MIT is a rip off of NX and SITC, but I kind of like it. I guess I loved NX and SITC and miss those shows, beside nothing else at that time interest me.

Hill Street Blues developed multi-episode multi-threaded plot lines. Shows like NYPD Blue, ER, Grey's Anatomy, West Wing, Lost and Studio 60 have followed suit. Are you suggesting that the writers of these shows couldn't think up enough material for a main story?

And even the "The Fugitive" had multi-threaded plot lines, though not as elegantly done as on HSB.

I think this show will survive just fine! Its a great mix of humor and drama.  The cast is ok, the setting beautiful.

For those of you concerned because this show is similar to Nex, give me a break!  Do you people go to the movies, and have you heard of the BBC?  Many of the shows currently on the air are copies, clones, spin-offs ect.  Ugly Betty comes from  Columbia, Many of the comedy and reality shows currently on came from England.

Its ONLY tv.  If its well done, just enjoy it!

I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I love NEx and MiT, okay? I know that a lot of shows and movies are almost exactly the same as each other. You don't watch as much TV as I do and not notice that. I was simply trying to create a list of similarities for my own use and thought I could see if anyone else had any others I could add to the list. My second fave TV show (after NEx) is "The Office", and yes, I know that is's spun off a British show, and I've seen the British version. I think you're taking this the wrong way. I love both NEx and MiT, and I probably love MiT more hust b/c of it's similarities to NEx. I never would have watched it otherwise. I watch the US version of The Office, because I saw the British version. This show is going to last because it's good. It's not going to be cancled for it's parallels with one of the greatest TV shows of all time (in my opinion.)

The difference between NE and MIT is going to be what drives MIT.  Which should be more of a "Men are from Mars Women are from Venus" type of thing.

Did anyone not roll with laughter when M & J had their great sex scene and she says "lets talk about what just happened" and he said "great sex".  CLASSIC M/V stuff.

If the writing continues to expound on those differences, that will be what sets MIT apart from NE

I've read the comparisons between MiT and NEx. But you know what? MiT is about love and relationships. I think that the creator of the show is a fan of NEx and MiT is a sort of a homage to that show. It really doesn't matter. I love tuning into MiT because of the quirky characters, the great writing, the great actors, the setting; and it's take on love and relationships. After I finish each episode, it always gets me thinking about my relationships with the people around me.
