I think add imbecile to the list.
Finally series 3 episode 5, Merlin cries for Arthur - loved it, I felt very emotional at that scene. My absolute favourite so far.
Also loved that the Great Dragon was back. He is so cute and wise. Why does Merlin never listen to him???
So now I can see why Morgana would be against Arthur to get to the throne. What an exciting prospect. I suppose Arthur will be the last to know the truth...

Do you guys think that Morgana's magic was controlled or anger driven?

She seemed pretty surprised to see Merlin. It looked anger driven - she was pleased with the results though. The smirk is back again.

Arthur looked horribly pale at the start of the episode. I loved the beginning of this episode.

I'm confused about Morgana being able to claim the throne. Didn't males take precedence over females (even if older) back then?

Yeah males are first in line for a throne. I think Giaus means that if Morgana\Morgause were to kill off Arthur then there would be nothing standing in Morgana's way to the throne. It's still the same now - well it is in the UK.

Maybe but with this version the first born male or female could be heir to the throne. Although she is illegitimate, Arthur may still take precedence.

This was such an amazing episode. I don't know where to start...

1- UFO: I was right in guessing the missing words from the spoilers, and to whom they were adressed.

2- Loved the first 5 minutes. The chase in the woods, the arrow, the references to previous episodes, but most of all, upset Merlin. Colin Morgan really needs shedloads of awards for his performance in this episode. I so wanted to hug him.

3- The balance between Merlin and Arthur was really interesting, and I thought somewhat at odds with the end of Gwaine. In the previous episodes, Merlin was all excited at the end and Gwaine and Arthur behave more soberly. In this one, Merlin is very somber (and Arthur notices) and clearly the leader. I love how Arthur is trying to guess what he needs to do for Merlin to consider him his master. He seems to realise he's got some way to go before becoming king material.

4- 2 small scenes I loved: the Gwen/Arthur hug (I so wanted Merlin to close the door, though) and THE DUMMY BASHING IN THE RAIN (capitals are for the excitement this brought me...)

5- Again, I think Colin Morgan excelled in showing Merlin's conundrum and mixed feelings, as well as his desperation as he realises everything he does only brings the future he's seen in the Cave.

6- The chats Merlin has with Gaius are becoming more and more intimate and complex. Gaius seems to become more of a confident than a counsel, which isn't a bad thing, and Merlin seems to guess most of Gaius's thoughts anyway.

7- Tony Head was also amazing in portraying Uther as a desperate father. Although I knew this was coming, I couldn't help but be shocked at his commanding that Gaius use magic to save Morgana.

8- Well, I'll stop here, as I'm rambling, but I thought the end of the episode felt a bit rushed, and I don't like the look of next week's episode (a bit too silly for me), but I look forward to the continuation of this storyline. Oh, I nearly forgot : did anybody else notice the only vision that hasn't happened yet was the one with The Old Man

Why is Uther keeping it secret for Arthur's sake? I never though a female despite older would take preference when it comes to secession issues back then.

I would have thought it was for his own sake to some extent. Not tarnishing Arthur's image of his and Ygraine's relationship.

Well Gaius said only Arthur stands in her way so I think it's implying she can claim next in line after Arthur.

How adorable is Merlin crying for Arthur because he can't save him? And he tells Taliesin that he is 'his friend' and not 'his master'

We didn't see Morgana with bruises though, did we?

I was thinking that. The spoiler pics were not actually images from the episode.

    - Is that even possible! :p Back to episode - I did love Arthur questioning Merlin as to how he is healed after he told him that he had an arrow in his back. Looking at Arthur's face upon Merlin's explanation I don't think he totally buys it.

    Cheeky! Though point taken

Yes, I loved the fact that even Arthur knew something was a little off there.

Nice to see some magic from Morgana. I think it was anger driven.

Uther said it must be kept secret for Arthur's sake though. How come?

*shrugs* Uther does tend to bend the truth. Maybe there's more that we still don't know.

hmmm I think that's the justification he gives Gaius... I don't buy it either though. I think he just doesn't want to admit he's got an illegitimate child. The finger moving made me laugh, this was such a lame plot device to show us she had heard.

He said Morgana's name was Vivian. Surely nothing to do with Lady Vivian?!

I agree with WW88 probably not to upset his idea of his parent's marriage. The affair happened before Arthur was born.

Yeah I didn't get that bit. The implication by Gaius was that Arthur would be first in line for the throne anyway, I guess Uther could have been speaking emotionally or something, he didn't want to reveal that he'd been lying to Arthur? I don't know, that bit didn't make much sense to me either.

It was a really cool ep though. The dragon really doesn't like Morgana does he lol.

Possibly not to tarnish the thought that his father loved only his mother and would never betray her.
Morgana did say that Uther doesn't want anyone else to know because it would tarnish his reputation as the perfect king.

Vivian is Morgana's mother - Gorlois' wife.
