Based on the proimos I saw last week, I still don't see why Uther is "forcing" Arthur to marry this princess. Is he under a spell or something?

He doesn't seem to be enchanted to me. And Arthur is of age after all.

In those days it was common to use marriage as a way to make a treaty or make it more weighty. Uther's motives could range from more military support, money, resources, to he wants Arthur to produce grandchildren already.

Well, traditionally royal marriages were made to create alliances with other royals. You entered into one because it was somehow advantageous for your country.

Still... Ethier an arranged marriage or forced it looks great. And I just CAN'T WAIT for Merlins and Arther's privite convos when no ones around!

Also can't wait for 'da magic staff back in action! Its a wonder Merlin's hadn't forgotton it yet!

hmmm. Or the marriage could have been arranged at birth of the prince and princess. This ep is beginning to feel to me, like a fairytale. I LOVE fairytales. I can't wait to see this ep. I wish it was here already.

If Uther is trying to force Arthur to marry for reasons of state, I wonder if we'll get any info about how Uther came to marry Ygraine. Maybe in the context of buck-up-son-this-is-how-I-ended-up-married-to-your-mother. That would be interesting.

Good point, I'd like to hear about that too. In the legend, Uther loved Igraine but she wouldn't love him so Merlin turned Uther into the image of a man she did love. I don't think that's the case here, though. xD

Great idea, it would be really interesting indeed and I'd love to hear about that!

Maybe, Uther will say that he married Igraine for an alliance, but that love grow up with time, and that for Arthur will be the same...Or maybe, if his was not an arranged marriage, he could tell Arthur that situation is different and that he must sacrifice himself for Camelot, or something...

I hope we get to learn how Uther became king of Camelot and he needed an alliance to maintain his position or if he could choose to marry for love.

Exactly! I hope this episode reveals A LOT of secrets about Uther's; past, releationship with Ygraine, HIS marriage, etc...

Uther seemed really strict about Arther HAVING to marry someone "even though he doesn't love her". I wonder how Uther himself will react after their FOR SURE 'father and son' marriage convo.

How amazing was that. Loved the longing looks between arthur and gwen and the moment morgana clicked that something is happening between them

Well, overall, wasn't as bad as I thought. I loved Arthur getting tearful, Merlin giving him advice and the Gwen/Arthur bits, although Arthur is a muppet for being so transparent. Enjoyed Gaius being a "honeytrap"

And, as my husband put it, "Zap, zap, gone!" Killing the Sidhe and Grunhilda was a bit too easy. And no Sir Leon again

I'm really looking forward to next week's episode, though. Sounds and looks amazing.

unfortunatley for some this ep didn't give the insight into Uthers past as hope but it still was a great andenjoyable episode. i especially loved the part where the nanny (forget the name)came onto Gauis, lol that pixie was completly blind to the obvious distaste. Also Arthur should be ashamed, beaten at horse riding by a girl :O

Same here. I loved that we were right not only about Morgana finding out about Arthur and Gwen's feelings but about Elena not being mean but quite charming indeed.

Yeah, too bad. It would have been a nice chance.

Aww at Arthur's glance at Gwen during his little speech about love
