    True pcdsa, the blue ink is the border, I first took it as a road or something. It makes more sense this way, since Lord Bayard looked pretty prosperous.

    Actually the map Arthur uses 10.08 mins in doesn't have the border!

    It has a river though. Could the blue ink in the second map be the river? Or maybe he is carrying several of those different maps he was studying.

    I rechecked and he seems to be carrying different maps. The first time he has several maps rolled together, the smaller is white-ish and the bigger yellow-ish. The second time he checks just the big one.

    Hope it isn't too far north of Mercia otherwise I might live there (that is if they're retaining any shred of geography, which they're probably not ).

    Well, I thought the perilous land looked really dry and inhospitable to be anywhere in the UK, but who knows...
    btw, does anybody know where they filmed this? I assume (maybe wrongly so) it wasn't all "in studio" stuff, but it doesn't look like anywhere I know.

    Llanwonno Forest, Mountain Ash, South Wales. According to Shine's location manager Midge Ferguson, the after-effects of forestry operations and a fire at the site left a dramatic and wild-looking landscape which made Llanwonno Forest the ideal setting for the Perilous Lands.

    Oh, I know geography in the show doesn't correlate to the UK, but that doesn't stop me looking at maps of old kingdoms and trying to relate it to Merlin. And if they will use names of actual kingdoms . . .


    I'm assuming it was filmed back in Wales and it looks to me like it is most probably where some forestry work has recently been going on, hence the lack of vegetation. I think I did actually read this somewhere but I can't think where it could have been

    Also, maybe I'm picky, but I thought they did mess up badly on the wyverns, what with the magic arms appearing when they're on the ground, but mostly, because they appear much smaller when Gwaine kills them from the back than they are when Merlin tells them to go away. They weren't quite as bad as the snake that scared Morgana's horse, but much worse than, say, the goblin...

    The snake(s) really were terrible.


    The wyverns did have arms when they were airbourne as well (unless they stuffed up a couple of shots or something which I missed) but the fact that they had four legs in the first place bugged the hell out of me, especially as there's more of a need to distiguish them from 'true' dragons in this. I guess I'm used to pretty poor CGI being the standard of British TV, so the wyverns didn't bother me too much in that respect. I've decided not to discriminate and accept that wyverns can come in all shapes and sizes: big, small, and having freakish mutations resulting in extra limbs . . . . And if all else fails, the old Merlin standby. . . blame magic and burn a few witches for good measure!

    I'm going to put this episode in my favorite Season 3 Episodes list.

    I love this episode. All the adventure, magic, romance, bromance, revelations and Morgana's evil smirks. My favorite scene was between Merlin and the Fisher King, it was so moving.


    I'm not very thrilled about the next episode. But let's see how it will fair.

    I'm with you on that one. I'm totally underwhelmed by the trailer and don't feel like watching it at the moment. I really hope I'll be proved wrong, but my hopes aren't very high right now...
