Wow, quite a dark, somber episode but nicely balanced out with some nice funny and lovely moments. Pretty pleased with everyone's screen quota. Despite having all the knights around there seems to be room for everyone. Loved Anthony as a broken Uther and Arthur's farewell to him and Gwen. Also Gwen turning to Lancelot (who seems very in love with her) to bring Arthur safely home and the last scene between Arthur and Merlin. Morgana seems to have grown up in many ways and wow, so cool that Emrys is gonna be her doom! Nice way to get started indeed

Aesthetically, I really like the new style, and I must admit it looks great in HD. I'll have to rewatch a couple of times to get my head round what I actually think about the storyline, character development, etc...

But overall, good. And really looking forward to next week. Although I can tell from this week that some of our conclusions about what's happening in part 2 are correct

Forgot to mention that I like the new music, everything about the episode seemed to feel new somehow, as if for once there isn't much of a reset.

I too need to rewatch asap. Can't wait for next week!
Liked then new opening titles we got the S2 kiss!
    Can't believe Morgause is dead.
Love Arthur-Gwen's scene. I thought we were going to have a kiss but the hug was lovely. Also Gwen with Lancelot. And Arthur willing to lay down his life for the people of Camelot, his scene with Uther was touching. And Merlin laying down his life for Arthur. Great start to S4.

Yep, I particularly liked the music in the scene when Merlin is packing in his bedroom and Gaius came in. Don't ask me why, but it particularly struck me, and is very different from previous scores...

I'll let you know what scene my favourite piece was playing at when I rewatch, AC.

I didn't miss the kiss, pcdsa. The scene was lovely written with the way Arthur made Gwen smile

What is it that disappointed you, Suagger?

In all honesty, I need to rewatch because the first time I watch an episode I'm kind of too excited to let everything sink in properly.

I agree it done lovely and the hug was just as good! I though by remindering her of the kiss he would repeat it.

I think after getting caught up in all theexcitementof the new series starting as a result this built my expectation and watching the episode it justwasn'tmatched. This is not to say I thought it was a bad episode, just not what I built up in my mind after reading all the spoilers, and how the cast spoke about the change in style and depth to the story.

I think I am being unfair since it's only the first episode and I am probably notexplainingmy feelings about the episode properly but I just can't get over a slight feeling of meh about it all. I think like you I am going too have to rewatch it.

But am I the only one who went "seriously Morgana, can't you see how much he looks like Merlin?"

Hehe, I loved the scene where each knight was mounting his on horse: Sir Leon was less "supple" than the other knights... And Lancelot would have been on the wrong side to mount his horse if he had tried.
