I with the rest of you Lamia was a filler episode, but i still found it enjoyable.

AC is right (as per ) the atmosphere in this episode was creepy, all the time there was this underlying feeling that something bad was about to happen. It was nice to give the knights center stage even if they did spend most of the episode being really nasty to both Merlin and each other! It was nice to see Arthur being unlike his father and sending help to distant villages, plus i loved having Guinevere doing something other than carrying a jug! I was pleased that Morgana had nothing to do with Lamia, it made a nice change!

Overall a dark and sinister episode, a good filler

I liked this episode..even more than some of the previous ones this season. I was pleased to see Gwen out of the castle doing something 'real' for a change and Arthur using some of his wits/hunting skills to make decisions rather than listening to bad adviceWink

For all the preseason hype about the "big and better CGI effect" I thought the monster Lamia was horrible! Completely laughable actually. It reminded me of something from the original "Dr. Who". It kind of resembled a scary muppet...

I was pleased that the episode ended with a sweet/private moment for Arthur and Gwen. The PTB needed to build some kind of foundation for the next episode. I would have been more happy if there had been another "picnic" scene (I know...not going to happen!) but I can dream, can't I!

Upon rewatch I think it's pretty cool and probably not a random choice that Sir Percival (the bigger and stronger) seems to be the one to be faster and more deeply affected by Lamia's magic; it's a nice contrast seeing the effect that such a petite woman has in a huge man. Sir Leon seems to be next in line, Arthur's right hand and the one who has been a knight for longer behaving all but knightly, also quite striking.

    Episode 4x08 RIP list:
-Several random Longstead people, killed by Lamia.
-Several random bandits, killed by the knights of Camelot.
-Several Southron slave traders, killed by Lamia.
    -Lamia, killed by Arthur.

    Episode 4x08 Lives Saved list:
-Merlin saves Sir Leon's life (by preventing the Lamia from killing him).
-Gwen saves Merlin's life by hurting the Lamia.
-Arthur saves Merlin and Gwen's lives by killing the monster-Lamia.
-Gaius saves the sick Longstead people and the knights with his remedy.

I agree with you BM. The contrast between the Knights was enriching to the over all feel of the episode. Although I found it quit hard to watch our beloved Knights treat Merlin so poorly. I was glad Gwen was there to help him keep his head!

The could have written in a group apology but hey, I hope they did say sorry.

    Potions made by Gaius:
-Merlin (as acting Physician) says that a poultice of patchouli oil will stimulate the blood flow and a tincture of belladonna will stimulate the heart.
-He treats the sick Longstead people and Sir Elyan, Sir Gwaine, Sir Gwaine and Sir Percival from the sickness provoked by Lamia.

I read a ff this afternoon which neatly pointed out that the knights might not remember how they treated Merlin. I thought that was actually a valid point, although maybe something should have been said about that. If they do remember though, I would have liked to see a hint of apologetic behaviour

As I said above, I think it was deliberate. Keeping a distance between Merlin and the knights seems to fit in with their theme of Merlin's isolation this season. Can't say I like it much, but I'm still hoping for some sweetness and light somewhere along the line

    Here, Trish:

Arthur's attributes to being the great king of legend:
-He says that it's his responsibility to protect the people of his kingdom whoever they may be.
-He trusts Gaius' opinion about Merlin acting as a Physician despite he harbours some doubts about Merlin's capacity.
-As soon as he suspects that something isn't right, he departs in search of his friends himself instead of sending a patrol like Agravaine suggests.
-He checks on his knights' condition and thanks Gaius for taking care of them.

    Awww lol

    Speaking of which...

    Arthur and Gwen moments:
-Gwen brings Mary's troubles to the King and he receives them in his chamber.
-Arthur won't stop looking for Gwen even if he has to ride day and night.
-When Arthur saves her from the moster-Lamia, she runs and jumps into his arms. He embraces her tightly, a big grin lighting his face.
-Once the troubles are over, they walk away together, arms laced at each other's back.
-Arthur calls her to his room to check that she is doing alright after all that she's been through. He says to be well aware of her loyalty and her wisdom but he confesses to be surprised by her 'fearless hero' side. He is impressed by the great courage she's showed equalling it to a knight's. She shows humility but he insists and tells her that he is proud of her. They kiss.
