I enjoyed this episode but wasn't my favourite. I thought that this episode would of been a lot less exciting than it was made out to be. I did enjoy it but it could of been a lot better. Arthur and Gwen scenes were cute.

That seemed all of a sudden, I thought. They don't seem to have developed that storyline very much and I thought Mordred would of been a more prominent player in this episode. It was rather sad. I really like the big dragon.

Despite we haven't seen much of the Great Dragon this season it seemed sudden indeed. It was nicely done though, CGIwise.

Your right they have done a good job of making him look paler. There was plenty of magic this episode, they could of pushed the story a little further forward this season. I thought that Arthur might of heard about Emrys a bit by now, I mean other than the one mention from Morgana at the end of last season.

    This is depressing.

I honestly detest that Morgana's randomly gets more and more powerful every episode. This episode especially she took another giant leap in power, she knows the intimate secrets of the greatest high priestesses without any explanation of course. She killed Alator easily. I don't know why he didn't even try to fight her with magic. I makes no sense to me how he randomly knows secrets of magic with no way of knowing them.

I was thinking of Alvarr for some reason when they kept saying that Alator would be in this episode. I don't know why I glazed over the proper names. It's kind of disappointing with that in mind that he wasn't in this. I like Alator a lot, it's such a shame that Morgana killed him.

I do find that I hate Morgana's more every episode. Her smugness and the fact that she's apparently second in power only to Merlin, and even then she's about the same level as him is very frustrating and irritating. When it comes to inherent magical talents personally I always thought it went something like Magical creatures, Merlin, Mordred, The older high priestesses, Nimueh, Randomly talented groups like with Alator, Morgause, The Druids, then Morgana. Or at least something like that. Her base power, the thing she's best at isn't magic. She's a talented seer and great swords-women, but she was never naturally particularly gifted with magic, so it's very unbelievable to me.

I was hoping that Merlin was healing himself on the roof, I don't know why he never attempted to heal himself with magic when he had the chance. I wanted him to be healing himself rather than calling for the dragon. It led to some lovely shots of the dragon etc though. I love how close they are.We never really get to see Kilgharrah in bright daylight.

I loved how close Merlin and Finna got so quickly. Fast friends and loyalty the moment he realized that she was trustworthy.

I wish there had been more Mordred in this episode.

That sonnet was lovely, emotional and tragic all at once.

The Arwen scenes were sweet and lightened things up a bit. This was a really dark episode, very intense and quite worrying for the characters and the future.

I'm not sure how I feel about this episode, I think it would have been better placed in s4. With the exception of the last 2/3 minutes there was nothing which made it feel like one of the closing eps of the season. S5 has been incredibly underwhelming. S4 seemed to have advanced the story a great deal more than s5 has at this point last year. By ep 10 last year Morgana was a high priestess, we had Aithusa, Arthur had become king and had formed an alliance with Annis, Uther had died, Gwen had left Camelot, Lancelot had died etc.etc. With the exception of Mordred coming back and possibly the outcome of The Disir I can't think of one story line which has genuinely moved the plot forward.

Personally I like that they have made Morgana so powerful, however seeing as she's my favourite character and the only reason I watch, I am quite bias lol.

I like it because of the challenge that it means, but I don't like it that there hasn't been any explanation whatsoever for such great improvement. I take it that Morgause could have taught her some things, but still I don't buy it that she is now an all powerful hight priestess of the the OR.

I know it's not really anything like it but it feels like if Gwen trained for 3 years and surpassed Arthur in fighting skills. Or just anyone with only slight skills at fighting (who doesn't have magic to boost it or something. Merlin's clumsy and pretty crap at physical fighting but I wouldn't be surprised if he could use magic to gain temporary skills like he did with the juggling (that would be pretty awesome and badass), he's a pretty fast learner and he spends most of the time that Arthur uses training watching and observing or being used as some sort of human punching bag.) Gwen has some fighting skills, she's the blacksmiths daughter and she knows what she's doing, but it's not something she excels at. Even if she trained she wouldn't surpass Arthur in a small handful of years. I know it's not really anything like it but it feel like it to me. I know Morgana's technically been using magic for like 10 years but we've only seen her have any good amount of control over her magic from about S4 and we've never seen her learning. Most of the time there's simply no explanation whatsoever for how she knows even half the stuff she does If magic was just something she was naturally gifted at, or she spent her life being taught, or they didn't keep mentioning that Merlin was the most powerful then I don't think I'd have much of a problem with it. Outside of the smugness, which I think is what takes it from a confusing and unexplained contradiction into the 'this annoys me' territory.

Sorry for the random rant . I really love S1/2 Morgana, I just miss her . This Morgana's so twisted and cruel.

Good episode overall I feel. Again it seemed really filler-ish but not as bad as some were...

I felt really sorry for some characters here - sad to see Alator die but I couldn't help but I wonder why he couldn't help himself... I'm going to assume that he had been weakened for one reason or another.

Finna and Merlin made a nice pair after he realised they could trust each other. Finna bowing to him was nice because of the way that it makes Merlin/viewers realise actually how respected he would be if people knew about his magic etc.

Kiligarah looks really bad in this episode... Nice to see him in daylight even if he does look terrible... An idea I'm going to shamelessly steal from the DS forum (which annoys me but sometimes has good ideas) is that he has sacrificed himself to make Merlin immortal which is certainly an interesting idea.

    Oh ... my ... God.

Cliffhanger indeed. I was not expecting the letter.

Camlann. It gives me cold chills just think about it. And the Knight of Camelot; I thought that Gauis' line might be spoken then if not after the picnic scene, so I wasn't too far off.

The stakes have indeed risen; next week will be the pivotal moment for Mordred, Merlin, and Arthur.

Could anyone give me the entire text of the letter? I couldn't quite make out the first part very well when Gauis was speaking; I only caught the end from "Camlann..."

    Here:

Let loose the hounds of war. Let the dread fire of the Last Priestess rain down from angry skies, for brother will
slaughter brother, for friend will, murder friend, as the great horn sounds a cold dawn at Camlann. The prophets do not lie. There, Arthur will meet his end, upon that mighty plain.

This episode did not turn out the way I thought. The teaser trailers and reviews really left a different picture :/

It would have been nice if Arthur was worried about Merlin but he didnt even know that he was in danger...at least the knights were worried about him. I find it funny that every time magic is involved Arthur sends his knights, who cant do a thing against good magic users.

Gaius distrust of Merlin is really annoying. At least he saw that he made a grave mistake.

The Arwen scenes were okay. Not too cheesy.

The part with the Great Dragon was so sad why does Merlin lose nearly every person he loves/likes, give the poor guy a break.

But I have to say, Merlin has a great endurance with his wounds. Being hit by an arrow in that place but still manageing to walk all the way to the tower and even up to roof. The knights should take lessons from him. Still it would be nice if he could heal himself..really in one episode he can heal Arthur from a deathly poison and in the next he cant even help himself. I really hope that we will see more difficult magic from him..I mean even Morgana shows much more variety in magic than the great emrys himself.

Morgana...I really hate her now. Why is she so powerful? Snapping peoples necks only by looking at them. Being able to do the GPS tracking and that face thing she did to the poor knight at the end (yikes X_X) If she can do all these things, why doesnt she just go to camelot and kill every knight in a blink of the eye. Merlin is her enemy and she still uses some poison why not just snapping his neck? I mean she can even transform herself into an old woman, without the need of a potion. (unlike Merlin) The writers really didnt do a good thing by making her so great in such a short time. This makes Merlin looks so weak next so her. :/

And she is really ruthless, even going against her own kind. No redemption for her anymore. Even sacrificing her own life would not be enough for all her bad deeds she did.

Poor Alator and Finna, I really liked them I hoped that Alator would be a good ally to Merlin in the future after the episode where we saw him the first time. But now he died. But he protected Merlin secrets till the end. And Finna was good too. I love Morganas look after Finna killed herself. Finally no smug grin.

But I have to say, this was quite a dark episode for a family show. Torture, killing oneself, the knights face. Nothing that I would watch if I was still a child O.o.

I'm not sure about this but I think that Merlin isn't able to heal himself when he is weakened by any reason. I guess that healing magic is a powerful one that recquires whoever practices it to be at their best.

'I have faith Arthur makes a great king' statements:
-Merlin tells Finna that things won’t always be like this and that they will get better.

Agreed, but they don't really explain anything with Morgana. They don't explain how she lives in a hovel in the forest and yet has an unlimited supply of money, horses, armies, etc. I've sort of given up expecting explanations when it comes to Morgana.

I do like that they have now made her someone to truly be scared of though. She was too reliant on Morgause in s3 and a bit incompetent in s4, I like that now she is a genuine threat and Arthur, Merlin, Mordred etc. are actually scared of her. However, I agree, her sudden growth in power is weird given that she couldn't really do anything with her magic until s4.

Indeed, but it's not just Morgana. There are many things that are left unexplained. Some I easily fill in for (some can be deducted, guess or simple hoped for lol) but Morgana has been a bit of puzzle in herself.

    Fashion:

    Merlin:
-Blue shirt, red scarf and brown jacket (day 2).
-Red shirt, blue scarf and brown jacket (day 3).

    Arthur:
    -White shirt (day 2).
    -Red padded shirt and chainmail.
    -White shirt (day 3).
    -Red padded shirt and chainmail.
-Red padded shirt and chainmail (day 4).
-Red padded shirt and chainmail (day 6).

    Morgana:
-Black dress and black cloak (day 1, 2, 4, 5).

    Gwen:
-Dark pink dress with maroon bodice and blue cloak (day 2).
-Off the shoulders red velvet dress.

Am i the only one who thinks that the healing spell he might have used on Merlin made Kilgharrah like this? Because when he went to pick up Merlin he flew normally.

As for the episode, it was so-so. Would have liked to see more development indeed.

It might be that each time that he's used his power to heal Merlin he's passed some of his life strength into him. I found it quite shocking because the dragon has never showed any sign of getting old before (granted that we haven't seen much of him this season) but he's always seemed strong and fit.

    Merlin and Great Dragon meetings:
