It is interesting how perspectives change once the show has progressed and we've gotten the chance to know the characters better. It is also funny to realize how we are able to catch up on new things when we watch the episodes over again.
People who have decided to join in:

    Rules are as follows:

    1. We are getting started on the first Saturday of 2011 and a new thread will be open every following Saturday. We are following the order in the list above to open threads and we are selecting the episodes in sequential order, so all 39 episodes of the three series will be rewatched. Double-parter episodes will be rewatched together, so the rewatching will start on Saturday January 1st and end in Saturday September 3rd.

    2. Everyone opening a rewatching thread should copy and paste the information in this entry (Introduction, List of participants and Rules) in the first post. That way, keeping track of the turns and our progress will be easier and also having the rules at hand will be useful for those who might decided to join us half way through.

    3. Everyone opening a rewatching thread is responsible for reminding the next person in the list to do the same the following Saturday (sending a pm on Friday should do it).

    4. Anyone not being able to open a thread on a particular Saturday can swap turns with the next person in the list (or anyone else) as long as they keep track of their respective turns.

    5. Everyone opening a rewatching thread has to propose a new topic in the "The Best and Worst of Merlin" thread.

    6. Agreed that we all sometimes just don't have the time or the inclination to leave comments, so it is not compulsory to rewatch and/or comment on every single episode.

    7. Anyone is most welcome to join at any time. Boom-moo will make sure to add new members to the list.

    8. If you don't own the DVDs or the episodes, don't let that stop you from joining. Feel free to pm boom-moo who can give you a link to a site where to watch them online

    9. Should anyone have any doubt, do not hesitate to pm boom-moo.

10.Failure to repeatedly comply with the rules will allow the editor to remove participants from the list.

As we rewatch, we can work on filling the following lists:

    -Magic and spells
    -RIP list
    -Lives Saved list
    -What Arthur calls Merlin
    -What Merlin calls Arthur
-Arthur's attributes to becoming the great king of legend

    -Morgana's smirks of doom
    -Arthur and Gwen moments

This is my favourite episode with its brilliant story and no reset at the end.

    Arthur-Gwen moments:
Arthur finds Gwen lying unconscious on the floor in Morgana's chambers. He carries her to Morgana's bed. He gently brushes aside a lock of hair from her face and watches her tenderly.

This episode is absolutely my favorite. It has everything in it. It's light, it's dark, angsty, and the drama is awesome. It really broke my heart everytime I watch Merlin in tears after what he had done to Morgana. That's such a hard decision to make. To kill a friend, to betray her trust, for the sake of hundreds of lives. But such decisions have grave consequences, as we now see in series 3 and onwards.

pcdsa, I've added the 2nd line under "Arthur's attributes to becoming the great king of legend". What do you think?

Arthur's attributes to becoming the great king of legend:
-He does everything in his power to save the king.
-He thinks he has failed in his duty to protect Morgana from Morgause.

Arthur is knocked unconscious or prevented from knowing about Merlin's magic:
-It is not clear what prevents him from hearing Merlin's spell that provokes the Idirsholas roof to fall on the Knights of Medhir. He might be too focused on the fight.

This episode is just fantastic. One of the best of the three years so far. Colin Morgan was just wonderful. No other word for it. What a tear jerking scene he gave us when he poisoned Morgana. So realistically portrayed. For me, the most dramatic and epic scene was when he released the dragon. It was amazing how they had the dragon looking at Merlin and the look on Merlin's face. The music was so perfect--kept us right on the edge of our seats. Bravo to everybody in this episode; a movie couldn't have done better for me.

    RIP list:

I only can think of the knights who went with Arthur and Merlin in the beginning and didn't escape.

Yay! I have caught up with the rewatch! (for now at least )

I love this episode so much, though can't decide whether this one or 1x11 is my absolute favourite, maybe they'll just have to be my joint favourites! I think the reason i love this one so much is that it is a prefect blend of everything Merlin does best humour, serious (very serious) bits and a little bit creepy (the Knights are really sinister!). Watching this so soon after watching The Witch's quickening it makes it easier to see why Morgana chose to side with Morgause. This episode also features something almost unheard of in Merlin land, Arthur notices that something isn't quite right and the facts don't add up!! He's suspicious of Morgana straight away and doesn't quite buy Merlin's excuse. The relationship between Merlin and Arthur is prefect in this episode which is a good thing as between them and Morgana they carry the episode. The end when Merlin finally plucks up the courage to kill Morgana is just amazing, nuf said!

I don't think he is suspicious of Morgana (as in Morgana being behind it, otherwise he wouldn't have left her alone with Uther sword in hand) but he is intrigued about the fact that she isn't affected and Arthur thinks she might know something that could help them fix things but she can't figure out why. After all, he says he knows her too well and that she is quiet because she is worried about Uther's wellbeing

Oh, look who's 7 weeks behind on the rewatch

I've watched this episode many times but it's the first time it struck me:

Did anyone else notice that Sir Leon is actually "taking care" of Uther?
He's the one who's called Gaius and tells him about Uther's symptoms and he's the one who's left in charge of Uther when Gaius has better things to do (namely dropping vials on the floor and having a snooze).
Sir Leon seems to be a glorified personal servant/knight for the king... Bit strange.

On a random note I think this episode has my favourite shot of Morgana, when she wakes up in her bedroom, surrounded with the white lacy curtain things on her bed

I had noticed about that. A picture was posted in the quiz thread with Leon tending to Uther, it's easy to identify the episode by that fact. He seems to have quite some standing indeed, he is some kind of a right hand to Uther and Arthur. He is the one who leads the search for magical artifacts in The Witchfinder, the one left in charge in The Last Dragonlord when Arthur is away, he helps Arthur make preparations for the siege in 3x01-3x02, the only one who dares trying for Uther to see sense about the troll, he is usually the one dealing with all the documents that Uther signs, etc. Seems to be the one in command of the knights, after Uther and Arthur that is.

I know, that's why it surprises me that he's a bit more like a servant to Uther at the start of the episode... And... I wonder where he disappeared when Uther fell asleep... After all, Sir Leon was meant to look after him...

Oh, I didn't read you properly then.

I don't see that as him doing the task of a servant, or being less than a knight in any way. Quite on the contrary. To me, it is a big honour and a proof of how much Leon is trusted that he is allowed near a weak king.
