My favourite, which is appropriate for this week, is Arthur and Guinevere's first kiss in 2.02 which uses Lancelot's theme from 1.05 but now is the love triangle theme (sniff sniff).

My other favourite is when Merlin looks in awe and wonder at Excalibur in 1.09. The music complimented Merlin's amazement at Excalibur's beauty.

For those who have the soundtracks, my favourites are:

    Sountrack series 1:

1 Merlin's arrival at Camelot 9 Merlin lost
18 The call of destiny 17 The witch's aria

    Soundtrack series 2:
    15 Farewell to Gwen
    20 Finale

-'Merlin's arrival at Camelot' covers the credits and the scenes where Merlin arrives at Camelot
-'Merlin lost' can be heard in the scene where Gaius heals Merlin's wounds and is some other scenes like when Gaius gives him the book of magic.
-'The call of destiny' is a build to the credits and the credits.
-The witch's aria is the song Lady Helen sings.

-'Farewell to Gwen' is the end of 2x02.
-'Finale' includes the kiss in 2x02 but the clip is longer.

It's really hard to decide but I absolutely love the violins in the last two. They get intense in 'Farewell to Gwen' and they cry in a really moving way in 'Finale'. If I had to choose I'd maybe go with 'Finale'. Despite Lancelot has never been my favourite episode, I rewatched the scene where he says his farewell to Uther and Arthur over and over because of the clip that goes with it, basically the 'Farewell to Gwen' one

I like the music when Ygraine appears to Arthur in 'The Sins of the Father', it sounds so full of mystery. The melody is then repeated in the scene where Arthur thanks Merlin for clearing up that magic is evil. It starts around 2:40 here and around 5:40 here.

It somehow reminds me of "The Lord of the Rings" soundtrack.

Right 3rd time lucky with this post!

I don't tend to hear the music in films and tv shows unless it's either really good and add something to the shot or shockingly bad. When i racked my brain only 1 piece of music came to mind and that was thescenewhere Arthur first kisses Guinevere. I remember it because it really added to the whole scene and made it all beautiful and magical.

Rohan Stevenson has 'Ygraine's Theme' up (among many other clips worth checking and so far unreleased) in his site here.

I agree it has a "The Lord of the Rings" vibe to it, it's really nice

You are welcome Miguel D'Oliveira also has some stuff in his site here. He used to have more, so I keep checking once in a while.

He has composed pieces for 'The Queen' also where Katie McGrath has a role as young princess Margaret.

    Heh! Nice choice!

I have two favourite moments, all from the same episode:

    "My job is to woo!"
    "To what?!"
    "To wooooo!"

And "It's destiny... destiny and chicken!"

Love both your choices too. So something different - the disappearing sausages and drumsticks scene in 2.09.

Food seems to be common factor here...

Indeed! Plus it's always quite funny when Merlin gets put in the stocks!

I don't know if it counts, but both 'Children in Need' videos were brilliantly funny. I showed them to my friends, many of which don't watch 'Merlin' at all, and they all liked them.

"There's a monster! It's horrible... yellow, and has only one eye!"

"I believe it to be..." "Spit it out, man!!" "Pudsey, sire!"

"Is it a creature of magic? If so, it must be destroyed!"

"Do as your king commands. Give your money to Pudsey, or I'll chop your head off."

"Clearly the sorcerer responsible did not dare turn his vile enchantment upon me!"

Ah yes, those are great. Hope we get a new Children in Need this year as well.

Uther and his "You were CC'ed on the email" cracks me up

One scene that always brings a smile to my face is when Merlin slaps Arthur awake in 2x12 One of the few comic reliefs in an intense episode but a great one at that.

Another bit that makes me smile a lot is Sir William on his horse before the tournament begins trying not to fall off and Gwen holding back a laugh in 2x02

Time to think about the newest best or worst moment!

Since this week we'll be voting on Uther's character thread name, I thought it'd be a good idea to name the most intense Uther moment!

For me, it's that moment when Uther and Morgana have a fight, and he is on the verge of hitting her, but instead he seizes her throat and almost starts choking her!

His scene with Arthur in 2.08 with the classic line "I am your king and your father, you will show me some respect", the sword fight, how he dodged the answer when Arthur asked "Swear to me that it isn't true, you are not responsible for my mother's death. Give me your word!" to finally kissing Arthur on the head.

Mine would be pcdsa's too. My totally top #1. It's one of the scenes I've rewatched the most, it's simply brilliant and very emotional and intense!

Now, to mention something different, I also like these moments:

    1x04 The Poisoned Chalice:

    Uther: You disobeyed me!
Arthur: Of course I did. A man's life was at stake. Do not let Merlin die because of something I did.
Uther: Why do you care so much? The boy's just a servant.
Arthur: He knew the danger he was putting himself in. He knew what would happen if he drank from that goblet, but he did it anyway. He saved my life. There's more. There was a woman at the mountain. She knew I was there for the flower. I don't think it was Bayard who tried to poison me.
    Uther: Of course it was.
Arthur: (handing the Mortaeus to Uther) Gaius knows what to do with it. Put me in the stocks for a week, a month even. I don't care. Just make sure that it gets to him. I'm begging you. (Uther crushes the flower in his hand) No!
Uther: You have to learn there's a right and a wrong way of doing things. I'll see you're let out in a week. Then you can find yourself another servant.

    1x09 Excalibur:

Nimueh: I was your friend, Uther. You welcomed me here. Uther: You betrayed that friendship.
Nimueh: I did as you asked! I used the magic you so despised to give your barren wife the son you craved.
Uther: Don't ever speak of her in that way. She was my heart. My soul. And you took her from me.
Nimueh: She died giving birth to your son. It was not my choice. That is the law of magic. To create a life, there had to be a death. The balance of the world had to be repaid.
Uther: You knew it would kill her.
Nimueh: No. You're wrong! If I had foreseen her death and the terrible retribution you would seek, I would never have granted your wish.
    Uther: I wish you hadn't.
Nimueh: You wish you didn't have a son? Well, your wish will come true tomorrow. Uther: I will not let you take him.
Nimueh: I have watched so many people I love die at your hands, Uther Pendragon. Now it is your turn.

    and

Arthur: You had Gaius drug me! I was meant to fight him!
    Uther: No, you weren't.
    Arthur: But the knight's code...
Uther: Be damned. I believed you would die, that was a risk I could not take. You are too precious to me. You mean more to me than anything I know. More than this entire kingdom and certainly more than my own life.
    Arthur: I always thought that...
    Uther: What?
Arthur: Well, that, I was a big disappointment to you.
Uther: Well, that is my fault and not yours.

    1x13 Le Morte D'Arthur

    Uther: Sleep, Arthur.

    2x07 The Witchfinder

Uther: I'm sorry if you suffered at his hands.
Gaius: But I did not suffer at his hands, Uther. I suffered at yours. He worked for you, my lord. He was merely following your orders.
Uther: But I was deceived... Gaius: No. You were deceived long before Aredian, for you deceived yourself. You see foes where there are friends, you see sorcerers where there are but servants. I am not the first to be wrongly accused in your war against magic. And not all have been as lucky as I.
Uther: I assure you, Gaius, every measure will be taken to ensure that nothing like this will happen again.
Gaius: I hope that is true. For all our sakes.

    2x13 The Last Dragonlord

Arthur: I will not stand by and watch my men die when I had the chance to save them.
Uther: I have given you my orders.
Arthur: Do not make this a test of wills, Father.
Uther: I am not talking to you as a father, I am talking to you as a King!
    Arthur: I will ride immediately.
Uther: My concern is for you.
    Arthur: Mine is for Camelot.

    ______________

I love it when Uther shows his soft side when it comes to Arthur
