The Troll's meals have to be the worst for me... I won't go into detail as to what they contained, you've all seen the episode...

As for the best, hmmm, I quite like banquet food... Say, 4x01 and 4x03 had nice dishes...

    Best: Leaving Ealdor for Camelot.

Worst: Advising Morgana to go the Druids since it lead to Arthur following his track, Aglain dying and Mordred coming to hate Arthur.

there are so many good and bad decisions Merlin made/didn't made

Best: preventing Arthur from killing his father
Worst: keeping Arthur oblivious about virtually anything (Lancelot, Uther's dead because of the necklace, Morgana being the traitor, etc..)

Best: refusing power from Cornelius Sigan - he refuses power from Nimueh, too, but he was distraught that Gaius died, so of course he'd have nothing to do with her. In 2x01, it's the first time he's genuinely tempted, and I think it's here that he permanently solidifies his loyalty to Arthur.

Worst: I agree with Ester there.

Best: 3x11 when he stops Gilli from using magic to kill Uther. It really shows how far Merlin has come that he understands his position, his role and his magic.

Worst: In 2x03 when he has the opportunity to tell Morgana he has magic and to help her feel less alone and he doesn't take it.

With the release of the Series 3 and 4 soundtracks on iTunes (finally!), I thought it would be a good idea to discuss what we consider the Best/Worst Musical Moments/Themes of the show.

A lot has rained since I proposed this topic (actually it was the first one I chose):

    boom-moo wrote:
For those who have the soundtracks, my favourites are:

    Sountrack series 1:

1 Merlin's arrival at Camelot 9 Merlin lost
18 The call of destiny 17 The witch's aria

    Soundtrack series 2:
    15 Farewell to Gwen
    20 Finale

-'Merlin's arrival at Camelot' covers the credits and the scenes where Merlin arrives at Camelot
-'Merlin lost' can be heard in the scene where Gaius heals Merlin's wounds and is some other scenes like when Gaius gives him the book of magic.
-'The call of destiny' is a build to the credits and the credits.
-The witch's aria is the song Lady Helen sings.

-'Farewell to Gwen' is the end of 2x02.
-'Finale' includes the kiss in 2x02 but the clip is longer.

It's really hard to decide but I absolutely love the violins in the last two. They get intense in 'Farewell to Gwen' and they cry in a really moving way in 'Finale'. If I had to choose I'd maybe go with 'Finale'. Despite Lancelot has never been my favourite episode, I rewatched the scene where he says his farewell to Uther and Arthur over and over because of the clip that goes with it, basically the 'Farewell to Gwen' one

A lot of new music has been written too and my favourite new clip belongs to Michal Pavlicek. According to iTunes it's entitled "The Burial" but it can be heard in many scenes: when Arthur is saying farewell to Gwen in 4x01, when Arthur gives the royal seal to Agravaine (4x01), when Merlin says farewell to Gaius (4x01), when the knights mount on their horses and Gwen approaches Lancelot to ask him to bring Arthur home safe (4x01) and also during Lancelot's burial (4x02).

I have to think about a worst since I don't think I dislike any.

My favourite is probably that new Lancelot theme we got a few times in S4 (not the massive violin invasion we got in S1-2). I love the music in the S4 opening double parter in general.

I think we refer to the same clip, AC. It is really beautiful indeed and Alice Troughton praises it as well in her audio commentary of the opening two parter.

I really love "Ygraine's Theme" and have been over the moon now that I have the Series 3 & 4 soundtracks. I also love the new "Lancelot Theme" from Series 4.

Maybe I need to edit my topic post to just say Best. As said by BM, all the music in Merlin is excellent!

My definitive favourite is 'Ygraine's Theme', and the atmosphere it creates, especially with Arthur standing next to the window, and contemplating.

    Hard one!

-I love Arthur's simpleton expressions and also his shock meeting Ygraine and his rage facing Uther afterwards.

-I have a very soft spot for every time Arthur or Merlin cry (Arthur before marrying Elena, Merlin setting Freya's body on fire: his hesitation moment is pure gold).

Because I can't choose bet butween A/M, I'm going with Uther's face when Gaius is giving him the "scalp massage"

Uther with the hat!!! (sorry, I always come down to that...) or Dragoon when he says "Meh" or Leon doing a double take when Gwen gives him THE dress
I agree about Arthur and Merlin crying, Esther. I think I have a preference for Arthur myself...

Worst, I'd say Lady Katrina or Trickler. I didn't like them as characters and their facial expressions looked a bit OTT to me.

I agree, Uther with the hat tops it all. But also some of Gaius' faces in the same episode.

Clumsy Princess Elena's expressions were priceless. GMK really rocked it!

Baddie Agravaine when adressing Gwen in private made my skin crawl but Morgana's recurring smirk is the worst for me.

Oh, yes, Uther in 3x03 is PRICELESS! And the tears. So pretty, I agree.

When I came up with this topic, I was specifically thinking of Bradley's "you've GOT to be kidding me" look in 5x01 when Merlin begins to juggle. I've ALWAYS loved that face. That and Colin's smile, but that's a different story.

Worst... I'm with AC. Katrina was definitely over-the-top.

Best: Definitely Uther in 3x03 with the baldness, and also Merlin's subsequent reaction. I like it anytime Colin seems to have to control his laughter.

Worst: I'm not a big fan of Vivian in 2x10. In general, I'm not a huge Georgia Moffett fan, but I really didn't like her there. Especially like in the food eating scene. It just seemed overdone to me.
