Vanness Wu was born and raised in California, USA. At an early age, he already started breakdancing on the streets of Los Angeles. He was part of the US-based all-Chinese boyband called The L.A. Boyz. He was very much into the hiphop and breakdancing events. He made an appearance in Run DMC's video It's Like That, as one of the male breakers involved in a showdown with a group of girls. Upon the suggestion of friends and family, he went to Taiwan to try his luck in the entertainment industry. He was seen by the producers of Meteor Garden in a male pageant on Super Sunday, a popular Taiwanese variety show. They cast him as Mei Zhuo, a sly and playful guy who valued friendships. His lines in Meteor Garden proved to be a bit difficult for him since he was not quite fluent in Mandarin, yet his English proved to be very useful in his music career. Vaness is the quirkiest and most hyperactive member of phenomenal Asian boyband F4. Together with Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, and Ken Zhou, their success made them one of the most famous music group in Asia. Their first album was relesed before they actually finished taping for Meteor Garden. Having a some English lyrics in their albums, Meteor Rain and Fantasy 4Ever, somehow helped propel them to international stardom. Vanness wrote his own English raps in Everywhere and F4's version of Can't Help Falling In Love, which became one of the original sound track for the animated film, Lilo and Stitch (2003). In Vaness' solo album, the songs That Girl, Imagine Ten of You, and Midnight Movie were rapped in Chinese. His other singles like Looking For Juliet and Body Will Sing were rapped in english. He also made an appearance in Beyonce's solo album, rapping in a mixture of Chinese and English on the single, Crazy In Love, which became more popular in Asian territories than the original Jay-Z version./rouxan
