  • Sonny Crockett gets married

    8.7
This episode had everything you'd expect in a Vice episode. You had some great shootouts, some great boat action (sans Elvis), and some real moments between the main characters. Especially touching was Sonny letting Gina know first and getting her approval of sorts which she finally gives him at the end. That's a throwback to the first few episodes early in Season One in which these characters had a relationship. But we were never quite sure what they were after even though Sonny moved on to other women. For some reason, though, three years later, Gina felt as if she was just being dumped. Persoanlly, I'd stick with Gina over Caitlin. I think the producers always knew that the Caitlin character was nothing more than a device. A short story arc which will reveal much about Sonny Crockett. This is the catalyst for the major mental breakdown he will have later on. Early signs of this came in Season 3 in which he got inside the head of the psycho killer and became too much like him. By the way, if there was any doubt, this series by Season Four officially became "Sonny Crockett, Miami Vice" with the rest of the cast, including Rico Tubbs, becoming even more of a supporting cast. If the truth be told, he was the reason we watched although we always appreciated those special episodes involving Tubbs and Castillo in particular.moreless
  • Let me get this straight, now ya gotta marry her?

    5.6
While setting up Crockett to remarry seemed like a good idea (especially to recoup ratings after a second straight season airing against Dallas) this become a contrived and rushed failure in the end.

The show signed Sheena Easton for four episodes to portray Caitlin Davies, a singer who gets Crockett to play bodyguard for her. (She also appears a fifth time near the end of the season, and it's the best one of them all.)

That's fine. But Crockett marries her at the end of this episodes. WHY?!? He's slept with other women upon meeting them, but here he needs a ring and Billy's okay? Way too contrived and out of character.

This is the first of 4 straight episodes with Caitln. None really work greatly. A wasted chance that viewers never really forgave the show for.moreless
