  • Really weird burglar hunted by a crazy detective. Crockett gets sucked into case and gets deeper and deeper into case. Crimes escalate. Crockett starts to think like perp. Castillo wants him off the case, Crockett can't let go. Good ending, great show.moreless

It started out really weird, and thats what hooks you into this episode. Its not the average MV. The burglar was so creepy you have to watch just to see how much weirder it gets. Crockett gets into the mind of the burglar and almost loses it, or is he in control the whole time?He has terrible nightmares and we see just how deep he is into the case. Don Johnson stretches his character out of his normal range. He is definitely the one to watch and it keeps you on edge right up to the end of the show.moreless
  • Crockett and Tubbs investigate a series of home invasions, the crimes escalating in their violence.Crockett is obsessed with finding the prowler, himself becoming as mentally unbalanced as the criminal, and the cop previously assigned to the case.moreless

Notable for being one of the first shows to introduce the method of Criminal Profiling, some have unfairly dubbed this episode as "Manhunter-lite". A quite intense piece of television, this-the usually unruffled, smooth-talking Crockett becoming more and more unhinged as the show progresses. It's a series-best performance from Don Johnson, and expertly helmed by director Christopher Crowe, who also introduces some surreal dream sequences into the story. The script is by former cop Chuck Adamson, and it shows-tightly paced, great dialogue, and Crockett's descent into madness is actually believable. There's no signature rock tunes driving this episode, either-just Jan Hammer's spare, haunting score, and one piece of music by Brian Eno for added atmosphere. Kudos also to Jack Thibeau, playing the case's former investigator Gilmore who suffers a breakdown trying to get into the mind of the Prowler, while Tubbs can only watch on as Crockett looks set to suffer the same fate.Definitely a highlight of a patchy season 3, and a well-crafted example of suspense television in general. Compelling stuff.moreless
  • A prowler is breaking into houses and terrorizing the inhabitants.

Just like the classification says: This is exactly why I watched this show. In addition, this is one of the main reasons that I watch television - period.

Prior to this episode, Don Johnson was simply a very good actor and Sonny Crockett was the lead character in one of the slickest shows of all time. In this episode, in my opinion, he shined as an actor and really expanded on the character of Sonny. I always "believed" the character of Sonny Crockett. After this episode, there was a level of respect for both the actor AND the character. Both were more "solid" to me. In my humble opinion, this was the best episode of the series.

  • Crockett and Tubbs are called in on an unusual case, a prowler is breaking into houses and his violence is escalating. Crockett tries to go inside the mind of the 'night prowler' and his sanity begins to unravel.moreless

I have been a huge fan of MV since it began; This is by far my favorite episode. It definitely reminds me of the film "Manhunter", also directed by Michael Mann. What makes this episode extraordinary is that it is such a departure from the normal catch-the-drug-dealer-this-week episodes. All of a sudden Crockett and Tubbs are thrown into a case unlike anything they have gone up against. The episode really allows Don Johnson to shine as his character becomes obsessed with finding the night prowler and understanding him. As the audience we keep waiting for Crockett to reach his breaking point and lose it. The acting is fantastic, the story is riveting and the show unfolds like a classic thriller. I can't wait until Season 3 is available on DVD!moreless
