Now I'm not going to go into any sort tirade about Comedy Centrals recent need to give comedians television shows. I'm going to get sraight to the point, this show is very lackluster. Now I'm nnot going to say it sucks bucause there are a few moments where you may chuckle at this show but don't expect to many laughs. You see the problem with this show is, it has no jokes. It is nothing but peurile antics that lack any sort of joke, pun, or punch-line. This show fails to show any form of comedy or humor. Not to mention a small portion of thier show is either stolen or copied from other shows. Now they don't do this to the extent at which Carlos Mencia did it but still it happens far to often. I will be surprised if this show makes it past another three episodes. Maybe this will teach Comedy Central to make good quality entertainment instead of trying to use famous comedians to rake in cash and ratings. Either that or shorten thier show conracts.
Let me start with this; I thought Stella was terrible. I never laughed once. Maybe it's just a matter of differing senses of humor, but I don't get it. I am in my early twenties, and I grew up with witty, relevant comedy. As a preteen, my sense of humor was guided by Seinfeld. As a teenager, I grew to love South Park, Futurama, the Simpsons, Scrubs, and random stand-up. I liked Friends, but like most other comedies at the time there was a laugh track to tell me when I was supposed to laugh. These days, there are much better options. Networks are starting to realize we are not all braindead. Unfortunately, Comedy Central hasn't quite picked up on this. They have shown signs of change lately- actually giving good young comedians shows such as Dimitri Martin and Daniel Tosh (the shows are still mediocre, but an improvement).
Unfortunately, there are still plenty of dull individuals out there who find shows like Primetime Glick, Naked Trucker, That's My Bush, Too Late with Adam Corolla, Carlos Mencia, and numerous other witless shows to be hilarious. I know I mentioned that it is a matter of differing senses of humor, but I have to believe that people who like these shows are a minority with very low IQs. That is why they get cancelled- most viewers know they are awful. Yet Comedy Central can't help themselves. With all the comedic talent they air doing stand-up, they usually give the least funny a chance. OK enough about how much comedy central's taste sucks. The amount of cancelled shows on the network proves my point. This show was slightly better than expected. Michael Ian Black is just terrible. Showalter is better, but not by much. The skits were boring and lacking in intelligence. It seemed like in the office scenes, they were vaguely trying to copy Flight of the Concords. In other scenes, it is so obvious what show they had been watching that week. The office is one that comes to mind.
The one that really pisses me off is their "worst word" skit. I absolutely guarantee they had been watching a skit called "National Spelling Bee" from a new york comedy troupe called "Derrickcomedy" Look it up. The basis of that skit is the most offensive word they can think of used in a spelling bee. Black "randomly" decided to give the word used in a sentence. Watch that skit and tell me he thought of that on his own. This show will be cancelled before the season ends. Comedy Central is one of my favorite channels because of a few shows they constantly show, but the people who work there need to be fired and replaced. Not just because I say so, but because almost every show gets cancelled within a year or two. It is bad television, and it gets cut. Name a show on the station that has ended without being cancelled.
