Michael Chiarello's Napa

Show Summary

Michael Chiarello's Napa is a food and leisure show hosted by a celebrity chef who showcases California's wine country. Michael Chiarello, a native of Napa, CA, steps out of his restaurant in Yountville, to present the Napa Valley to interested vacationers and wine connoisseurs. The American Public Broadcasting System begins the season with Chiarello making some Mediterranean food in his Bottega restaurant for a picnic at a local vineyard. Cameras then leave the restaurant and head to Kelleher Family Vineyards in Chiarello's hometown of Yountville. There, the chef enjoys some Greek-style penne with fresh tomatoes, feta and dill while sipping on a vintage Merlot. Throughout the series, Chiarello boasts that Napa Valley is for people who want some, "rich and uncomplicated," leisure time. With this in mind, the chef focuses his show on presenting only well-hidden, family-owned wineries, restaurants and spas in the region. Chiarello takes his cameras to places like Golden Haven Hot Springs in Calistoga and Chase Cellars in Saint Helena, in search for the best places for people to relax during the weekends. Chiarello also prepares some of his famous dishes throughout the season, including his award-winning recipes Polpette Alla Casalinga and Gnocchi alla Romana.
