  • Lumberjacks free the demon of violence when they cut down a tree, and Max has to find a way to keep Norman from submitting to wanton violence while trying to trap it again.moreless

Again, Mighty Max defies expectations at every turn. All throughout the episode we see a forest being laid to waste in the name of progress, and we keep expecting that to be the problem Our Heroes are trying to prevent, but instead they face the problem of being desensitized to violence. Max learns that the Hollywood portrayal of violence is different from what it is in the real world, and Norman learns that there are some problems even his strength cannot get rid of. Kind of scary for little kids, but man it'll make 'em think.moreless
  • The greatest moment in Mighty Max.

I love this episode, and it includes what may be the greatest moment in Mighty Max. Norman walks into a dark cabin and finds the body of a young woman, leaves and shuts the door. When Max protests not being able to see, Virgil says

"This is real, and real violence has real consequnces!"

which is a powerful stance for a childrens show in the era of Power Rangers and the Ninja Turtles. Its always nice to see some of Norman's back story and the concept of Lockyar is great. The suggested violence is horific (Eg. The loggers killed with a chainsaw), so my only real critism is by the end Max seems to have learned little, and the deaths of at least three people are forgotten.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • When Norman open the door to the cabin, his shadow in the entrance resembles the opening title of the episode only with Lockjaw in it.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • (They find a cabin by the lake. Norman steps through the open door and is disgusted by what he sees. He steps out and shuts the door behind him.)
      Max: What is it Normie?
Norman: You don't want to see this Mighty One...
Max: Hey man, I've seen violence on TV and in the movies!
Virgil: No! This is not the movies, Mighty One! This is real, and real violence has real consequences!
      Norman: Yes, we're wasting time...

    • Max: So, end of Lockjaw, end of story, right?
Virgil: Lockyar, and neither he nor the story was ended.
      Norman: He came back.
Max: Woo and I bet he was peed off…
Virgil: Indeed. It was five hundred years ago in these very woods, Norman and I managed once again to defeat him. We hid his axe and his key and imprisoned him in one of the immortal trees, destined to stand for all eternity.
Norman: But someone cut it down...

    • (Felix and Max are looking at a poster with Max, Norman and Virgil on it. It reads "Cap Bearer Productions in association with Mighty One Entertainment present 'PORTAL' Starring VIRGIL, NORMAN and introducing MAX. Produced by Virgil, Directed by Virgil and Financed by Virgil. NOW SHOWING!")
Felix: I'll wait until this one's out on tape.
