A Mike & Molly Community
Monday 8:00 PM on CBS

YES, THIS SHOW IS STILL ON

... Mike & Molly is adding some star power via Academy Award-winner Susan Sarandon, who will guest-star as JC Small, a literary icon and an idol of Molly’s. She's described as being "part JD Salinger, with a touch William Faulkner and a sprinkle of Gore Vidal." [CBS via press release]

BUSINESS TIME

... TNT has ordered 10 episodes of the Steven Bochco-created drama series Murder in the First. It stars Taye Diggs (who recently landed a guest spot on New Girl) and Kathleen Robertson as homicide detectives investigating the murder of an apparent drug addict. Much like The KillingThe Bridge, and Broadchurch, the series will take on one case per season. Because that really seems to be working out so well for the majority of the series that attempt it. [TNT via press release]

... I know you guys are all going to be really upset, but 60 Minutes will be preempted on Sunday for a late afternoon football game and the Emmy Awards. [CBS via press release]

... NBC is developing a miniseries about the legendary Johnny Carson. It'll be adapted from Bill Zehme’s upcoming Carson biography, Carson the Magnificent, which is cool and all, but at what point do we say oy with the miniseries already?! Miniseries used to be special projects, but now it seems like there's a new one being announced every other day, and you just know half of them are going to be terrible. [NBC via press release]

... See? What did I tell you? Now Spike TV is developing a miniseries about King Tut. When will it end? [Deadline]

... E! has canceled Ryan Lochte's reality series, What Would Ryan Lochte Do?. I think I speak for everyone when I say IT'S ABOUT TIME, amirite? [TV Line]

CASTING NEWS

... Janina Gavankar (all the TV shows) and Khary Payton (General Hospital) have signed on to star opposite Ben Rappaport in USA's new comedy pilot Love Is Dead, about a romance in reverse, starting with the break-up. [Deadline]

... Adam Pally of the groundbreaking series Happy Endings has been upped to a series regular on The Mindy Project. His character, Peter, is the newest ob-gyn in Mindy's practice. Pally's first episode is slated for October 1. [Deadline]

... Beth Riesgraf (Leverage) has landed a role on ABC's Tricia Helfer-fronted midseason drama Killer Women. She'll appear in the second episode as Jennifer Jennings (that's unfortunate), an interior decorator who has a secret side-business that may or may not involve murdering people. I don't know, it wasn't really all that clear. [TV Line]

... Enlisted, which was recently moved to midseason, has cast Stacy Keach (Prison Break), Dean Stockwell (Battlestar Galactica), and Barry Bostwick (Spin City) as a trio of army veterans who return to the base for a funeral. It eventually becomes clear they're the older versions of the Hill brothers, played by Geoff Stults, Chris Lowell, and Parker Young. [TV Line]

...At least they're not getting called 'event' series (what a pretentious name).

I like Ben Rappoport and Janina Gavankar, so I'll probably check out Love is Dead, but it sounds one small step away from us having How I Divorced Your Mother. "Kids, it all started when I found out your whore mother was sleeping with my best friend Barney...."

Good grief, when is the cast list on The Mindy Project ever going to finally stabilize? it seems like it's been in near constant flux ever since it started.

Murder in the First will do much better if they change the title to the two lead characters' names joined by an ampersand.

These "New Episodes" Notifications are super annoying. We wouldn't be on the site at all if we didn't already have ways of watching them. I even tried clicking on them to make them go away, but they won't.

So instead of being good by themselves, New Girl and now Mindy are just going to benefit from actual funny people that were in Happy Endings. ABC is dumb, ABC might be dumber than NBC because for all NBC has done to Community, Community is still on the air.

Speaking of Happy Endings, I am really kind of surprised no one picked up Elisha Cuthbert. Who was insanely funny on the show. Emmy worthy.

Janina, thank you USA, though, I think your Sitcoms aren't going to do well. Mostly because you had a chance to take up Happy Endings and instead you took reruns of Modern Family. I do appreciate you could have done worse and been one of the 8 channels that have BBT reruns.

Also, Sherlock season 3! I really can't wait.
