In the first episode of this excellent series, we meet Jeremy Brown, (Barry Evans)a young teacher who takes a position teaching English to a class of students who hail from all over the globe.
Jeremy's start at the night school where he is to teach is less than auspicious when he encounters the headmistress, Miss Courtney (Zara Nutley) who is, to put it mildly, less than welcoming, particularly as she had been told the position was to be filled by a woman.
Initially very optimistic, Jeremy soon loses quite a bit of his enthusiasm when he realises that his students not only barely speak the language, but also enjoy nothing more than to argue heatedly with each other on the issue of cultural differences and racial superiority!
The students - Ali from Pakistan, Danielle from France, Giovanni from Italy, Jamilla from India, Taro from Japan, Anna from Germany, Su-Li from China, Juan from Spain and Max from Greece, among others all, however, have one thing in common - they think that Mr. Brown is fantastic and they are all very eager to show him how good their command of the language is, which isn't saying much!
With the students knowing virtually nothing and Miss Courtney on the prowl, constantly ready to pounce, this first episode sets up an excellent series which delivers laughs time after time. If you like British comedy and want to see it at its best, then the first episode of 'Mind Your Language' should be high on your 'To Watch' list!
