  • Behind the discreet curtains of an English village, who knows what might be going on? Even murder...

    9.5
The fungus-like spread of neurosis and resentment in an "idyllic" village is the subject of this episode, whose plot rather resembles that of a famous French film of the 1940s, "Le Corbeau". In an atmosphere of rancour and distrust, the work of a murderer is made easier, and only Miss Marple can see past the anonymous accusations to the killer's real motive. In this version, Miss Marple has rather more to do than in Christie's original novel, and her cool appraisal of what life is really like in this sweet-seeming place is a sharp reminder of the deceptiveness of appearances. Will the apprehension of the murderer return the village to its earlier, Eden-like state? Maybe not.moreless
