Episode Summary

EDIT
The Thinking Stone; Big Bad Buggysitter
AIRED:
The Thinking Stone: Squirt finds himself torn when he agrees to attend two different activities --- Lil Sis's hatchday party and a tuber tuba parade. Squirt receives a lot of advice, but Holley helps him to see that what he needs is a quiet place to sit down and think. Squirt begins his search, knowing he has to make a decision quickly.
Big Bad Bug Sitter: It's Miss Spider and Holleys' anniversary and Spindella helps the kids to hoist their present into the Cozy Hole --- a beautiful spider plant. Holley has a surprise of his own for Miss Spider --- dinner-for-two at Le Bistro followed by the Sunny Patch Player's performance of "Romeo and Junebug." Unfortunately, it looks like they won't be able to attend when none of their normal buggysitters are available, until Spindella volunteers for the job. Soon the kids are having fun, but Shimmer feels left out when her desired activity keeps getting put on hold, and Spiderus finds himself missing his wife.moreless

      • Betty: I'm playing a queen in "Romeo and Junebug" tonight.
Holley: Congratulations Betty. Miss Spider and I are seeing the show tonight.
Betty: Wonderful. And who's going to buggy-sit my little grandbugs?
Holley: Um, well.. (sees Gus) Gus, are you busy tonight?
Gus: You betcha. I'm camping out with the Sunny Patch star gazing club. It's supposed to be extra twinkly tonight. See ya.
        Holley: Oh boy.

      • Beetrice: Miss. Spider, I was just on my way to see you.
        Miss. Spider: What a coincidence.
Miss Spider and Beetrice: (in unison) Can you buggysit tonight?
Miss. Spider: I guess that if you need a buggysitter, then you're busy too.
Beetrice: Yeah. I'm going to see Romeo and Junebug.
Miss. Spider: So are Holley and I.

      • Squirt: Hey, that's it. I know how I can go to Lil' Sis' party and still go to the Tuber Tuba parade. I just needed a quiet place to sit and... (He sees that he's sitting on a stone.) Yahoo! I have a thinking stone. I have a thinking stone.

      • Squirt: (landing on a big rock, which starts to sizzle under his feet) Ow. Hot, hot, hot, hot, hot! (He falls off the stone.) Okay, maybe a sun-baked stone wasn't such a hot idea.

      • Shimmer: Gee, I never realized Spiderus could be so much fun.
Spindella: Sometimes all a bug needs is a push in the right direction. Thanks, Shimmer.

      • Shimmer: Why are you so upset, Spiderus?
Spiderus: Well, all that music and dancing and laughter and noise. How do you think it makes me feel?
        Shimmer: Left out?
Spiderus: Well, yes... uh, that's nonsense! What in all of Sunny Patch makes you think I'd want to join in all that silly fun?
Shimmer: Well, because sometimes I feel that way too.
        Spiderus: Really.
Shimmer: Uh-huh. But maybe it's time we both joined the party. What do you say?

      • Spindella: I told you before I left, dear. Your dinner's in the oven. Make sure you use a potholder when you take it out.
Spiderus: Oven? Pot holders? It's all too much. When are you coming home?

      • Miss Spider: It seems like every bug in town has something to do on our anniversary.

      • Miss Spider: Oh, a spider plant! This has to be the best spider surprise ever!

      • Miss Spider: I thought I'd find you here. What are you smiling about?
Holley: (sighs happily) I was just thinking about how lucky I am to have you and the kids.
        Miss Spider and Holley: Aah.

      • Squirt: Jeepers skeeters! This stone is too hard. I can't get comfortable enough to think about anything. I'd better keep looking.

      • Squirt: A really hard decision needs a really hard stone.

      • Holley: I have a thinking stone.
Squirt: What do you think about there, Dad?
Holley: Oh, all kinds of things. Big things, small things, silly things. You can even make an important decision, like when I decided to ask the most special spider in the world to marry me. (makes kissing noise and chuckles happily)

      • Holley: (to Squirt) Sounds like something's really, hmm, bugging you.

      • Squirt: I really wanna go to the parade, but I already promised Lil Sis I'd go to her party.
Snack: You could say you got sick.
Dragon: Or got bugnapped by a big, scary chicken.
        Squirt: But that's lying.

      • Miss Spider: At last, a little quiet. Back to my spi chi exercises.

    • NOTES (1)

      • Michael Stokes is the writer for the first story and Neil Affleck is the director. Steven Sullivan is the writer for the second story and Lynn Reist is the director.

    • ALLUSIONS (4)

      • The play that Miss. Spider and Holley see is called Romeo and Junebug. Which is a spoof to the Shakespearean play, Romeo and Juliet.

      • The game the kids play, Bug Tangle, is similar to the game Twister.

      • Holley: Spiderus looks like one tuckered-out Dad.
Miss Spider: Maybe we can buggysit for you and Spiderus someday.
        Spindella: Maybe. Someday.

The first indication that that Spiderus and Spindella are considering the possibility of becoming parents. This eventually comes to be in the second-season episode "Lulla-Bug; Most Perfect Parent."

      • Spiderus: Must you little bugs make so much noise?
Spindella: Oh, don't be such a grumpy bug, dear. The children are trying to do something nice for their parents.
Spiderus: Well, can't they be nice and quiet? I'm trying to read the latest issue of Web and Garden.

Spiderus mentions a magazine with a title that is a spin on the popular Home and Garden magazine.
