While the plan for this con is brilliant, the execution is even moreso. From the hydraulics to simulate the motion of the train to the film crew providing the background, we really see in this episode the extent to which Dan is the "brains" of the outfit. The other team members have their roles in bringing it all together, but Dan is the one who has to formulate the plan. I like how the voice on the tape said it in the "Pilot" - as always, you have carte blanche. That is rarely better expressed in Season 1 than it is here.
As a Landau fan, I'm enjoying the later Season 1 episodes that have Rollin taking a bigger leadership role in the field. Of course, I realize that it was due to Steven Hill's on-set problems, and I wish that some compromise could have been reached. I am going to miss Briggs when this season is over.
Nice turn by William Windom (best known to me as Dr. Hazlitt from "Murder, She Wrote") as the duplicitious Pavel. It's easy to see why the Prime Minister was taken in by him, and it makes his downfall all the more palpable. Willy and Cinammon still don't have a lot to do, but Barney and Rollin make up for it. If only from a technical standpoint, "The Train" is one of the best "M:I" episodes of Season 1.moreless
