Mister Roberts

Show Summary

This series chronicles the World War II comic adventures of the USS Reluctant AK-601 cargo ship commanded by Captain Morton, a very stubborn man who thinks he's never wrong. The Reluctant manages to stay well behind the lines much to the frustration of Lt. Doug Roberts who desires a transfer to a vessel that sees action. Roberts is also always at odds with the Captain concerning the welfare of the crew. Ensign Pulver is the laundry and morale officer who considers himself a ladies man. Many times his schemes add more to the current problem then help it. The ship's doctor is a good-natured individual who sides with Roberts and Pulver against the Captain. Regular crew members include Seamen D'Angelo, Manion and Reber. The Thomas Heggen novel Mister Roberts was a bestseller in 1946. It became a Broadway stage play in 1948 and was made into a movie in 1955.
