Growing (3)

Episode Recap

Learning about words and people is part of growing, says Rogers. He leaves the television house for a few seconds to collect a cat named Jimmy. Back in 1986, Jimmy was a kitten (flashback to Show #1559). Rogers reminds viewers of growing up. He shows baby pictures of several anonymous people. Mr. McFeely arrives to pick up Jimmy and gives flowers to Rogers. (This is part of the new Speedy Delivery ad campaign.) Rogers remembers how he always gave flowers with love. He then mists his bean plant. He sets up the NOM models and introduces a clay figurine of Purple Panda (the only time after Show #1605 that a clay figurine would be used). In the NOM, Lady Elaine gives a Purple Light emergency message for Purple Panda to help. When he goes to the Castle to see King Friday XIII, the Big Thing rolls in. Immediately, the King calls his troops on standby as Chuck Aber, Mayor Maggie and Purple Panda approach the Big Thing. They explain that it is now in the NOM, and they mean no harm. The Big Thing reacts by teeter-tottering. "If we can all talk and think and feel peace," says Aber, "we'll all be the better for it." Back in the kitchen, Rogers secretly takes NOM models away for viewers to determine what is missing. He returns to the book to show the pictures of babies compared to who they grew up to be. At the last minute, Eva Kwong and her daughter Una visit (for the first time in five years). Una reads from One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss. Songs: Won't You Be My Neighbor?, Everybody Has A History, Speedy Delivery To You (final stanza), You're Growing, Good Feeling.
