    • QUOTES (3)

      • Mr. Rogers: You know, being kind is trying to think about what somebody else might like and trying to help them with it. And when you've been kind to somebody and they're feeling good about it, you can feel good about it too.

      • Mr. Rogers: Being kind has nothing to do with your outsides. No, kindness is an inside thing. You can be very big outside but very kind inside. You can be very small outside but very big and kind inside.

      • Mr. Rogers: You know, people and animals and plants grow because others are kind to them. It's really hard to grow when others are unkind to you.

    • NOTES (1)

      • Mister Rogers tells an errant telephone caller that he should call a number beginning with the prefix "143." The U.S. telephone system does not allow any prefix beginning with 1 or 0, but there was another reason Mister Rogers chose that fictitious prefix. This was the first subtle use of the numeric way to say "I Love You." It will not be overtly used on the show for more than five years to come.
