When I was a child, Mr. Rogers seemed to talk to me about things I was curious about without a bunch of technical stuff and talking down to me. I used to think I could predict if the sign would say Hi or Hello, but in reality I never really knew if there was a pattern.
Maybe it was the gentle simplicity that drew me in. All I knew was when I watched I felt safe and as though I had some worth. I was so surprised when my daughter told me (at the age of 6 or 7) that she didn't really like this show as it meant so much to me as a child. It makes me a little sad she didn't get what I got out of it.
