Mister Rogers arrives with a canary in a cage, which he invites the viewers to observe, before talking about how the bird needs human care. Taking the canary to the kitchen, Mister Rogers gives it some food and water as he sings "I Like You As You Are."

In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Lady Elaine is getting frustrated watching birds. Meanwhile, X the Owl stops by because he is people watching. X helps Lady Elaine to understand that she needs to practice patience as she learns about new things.

Lady Aberlin arrives at the Museum-Go-Round and asks Lady Elaine to take care of the decoration for an upcoming Peace Party - a celebration of the end to the previous week's tension. With the help of Lady Aberlin, X shows Lady Elaine pictures of different types of owls and other birds. Encouraging her further, X and Lady Aberlin sing "You've Got To Learn Your Trade."

Mrs. Frogg arrives and is asked to take care of refreshments for the Peace Party. Moving on to the castle, Lady Aberlin encounters Edgar Cooke who asks about plans for the Peace Party.

Back at the house, Mister Rogers sings part of "You Have To Learn Your Trade" before Judy Rubin stops by with a collection of pretend birds made by some young friends. Together with Mrs. Rubin, Mister Rogers uses some objects in his kitchen to make a bird of his own.
